Travel with us to this still relatively undiscovered island country—filled with fantastical landscapes, unusual plants, and a huge array of endemic animals. Your journey will cover many ecosystems, from the dry, spiny desert of the south to the highland rainforests, tropical islands of the northeast, and northern mountains.

An optional 3-night extension takes you to the secluded Anjajavy, a Relais & Chateaux hotel. Guiding you along this journey are our Indian Ocean specialist and photographer, Megan Bryant, and Edward Tucker Brown, managing director of the first luxury tented camp in Madagascar’s spiny forest.

Day 1

Arrive Antananarivo, Madagascar. Overnight Hotel Palissandre.

Day 2

Approximately 3 scenic hours by good, winding road to Perinet-Andasibe. Enjoy horseback riding and an evening walk to see nocturnal lemurs species, chameleons and more at Vakona Lodge.

Day 3

Excursions in Andasibe Special Reserve and Mantadia National Park to see the largest lemur, the Indri, as well as other lemurs and birds. Visit Andasibe Village, Vakona Lodge.

Day 4

Morning walk in the reserve and drive back to Antananarivo's Ivato Airport. Scheduled flight to Fort Dauphin. We transfer by road to Ifotaka. MCC's Mandrare River Camp.

Days 5 & 6

Walks in the sacred, spiny forest and gallery forest. See local Antandroy people herding Zebu, Mandrare River Camp.

Day 7

Drive back to Fort Dauphin with a picnic lunch stop at Lac Anony, where you may see flamingos in this brackish lake and climb the sand dunes that look over the Indian Ocean. Continue to Fort Dauphin and Kaleta Hotel.

Day 8

Morning stop at lookout point to see if any migrating humpback whales are in sight. Transfer to the airport for a scheduled flight to Antananarivo. Tsara Queen Hotel.

Day 9

Scheduled flight to Diego Suarez at the northern tip of Madagascar. Enjoy some time in Le Fontenay Nature Park, Domaine de Fontenay.

Day 10

Explore Montagne d'Ambre National Park and Diego Suarez, Domaine de Fontenay.

Day 11

Drive towards the northwest, tropical coast today. Explore the Tsingy of the Ankarana before arriving at the coast, where you will be transferred by boat to Tsarabanjina.

Day 12

Snorkeling, diving and other water activities are on offer around Tsarabanjina.

Optional Extension:

Day 13

Fly directly from Nosy Be to Anjajavy. Enjoy walks in the forest, spotting lemurs and other creatures. Enjoy a secluded beach sunset, Anjajavy L'Hotel.

Day 14 & 15

Many nature activities are on offer with specialist guides or on your own. Relax on the beach, boat to Moromba Bay, walk the many trails to see lemurs, crabs, caves and fossils, Anjajavy L'Hotel.

Day 16

Scheduled flight to Antananarivo and depart.
