This adventure provides an opportunity for the visitor to view the fantastic and unusual wildlife of Madagascar, eighty percent of which is found nowhere else on Earth.

When Madagascar broke away from Africa millions of years ago, its flora and fauna evolved in isolation, developing 1,200 varieties of orchids, 40 different species of lemur, two thirds of the world’s species of chameleon, and countless insects and birds, many of which are endangered.

Of Afro-Asian ancestry, the Malagasy people arrived on the island over 2,000 years ago. Today, there are about 18 different clans, who each speak a dialect of Malagasy. Madagascar was under French influence from 1895 to 1960, and in the cities, French is still spoken by some.

The diverse and spectacular scenery varies from lush forest to dry, arid regions. Visit groves of carnivorous pitcher plants in the Perinet National Park with a diversity of rare rainforest animals, notably the baboon-sized Indri, the largest lemur. Baobabs and other entrancing endemic species grow in the “spiny desert” of Berenty in the southern sub-desert.

Fly to Fort Dauphin, game-viewing in Berenty Reserve, Gite de Berenty Lodge.

Days 4
Transfer to Fort Dauphin Bay, Hotel Miramir.

Days 5 - 6
Fly to Antananarivo, game viewing in Perinet Reserve, Vakona Lodge.

Days 7
Return to Antananarivo, Hotel Palissandre.

Days 8
Depart Madagascar.
