This safari affords you the rare opportunity to view Africa's great apes in two of their majestic natural habitats: Rwanda's mist-shrouded Virunga Massif and Tanzania's Mahale Mountains. Begin in the tiny republic of Rwanda, a mountainous country with a temperate year-round climate. Its principal attraction is its primate population, in particular the Mountain Gorillas truly awe-inspiring and magnificent creatures.

Journey into neighboring Tanzania and the remote jungle-draped peaks of the Mahale Mountain, towering over the azure waters of Lake Tanganyika and Greystoke Mahale Camp, your home for three nights. Here, track some of Africa's last remaining wild chimpanzees.

Arrive Kigali, Rwanda. After lunch and a visit to Kigali Memorial Centre, depart by road for Kinigi (a 2 1/2 hour drive), Gorilla Mountain View Lodge.

Day 2

First Gorilla trek in Parc National des Volcans, Gorilla Mountain View Lodge.

Day 3

Second gorilla trek in Parc National des Volcans and return to Kigali, Kigali Serena.

Day 4

Fly to Arusha, Tanzania, Serena Mountain Village.

Day 5

Fly to Mahale Mountains, Greystoke Mahale Camp.

Days 6-7

Chimpanzee tracking in Mahale Mountains National Park, Greystoke Mahale Camp.

Day 8

Fly to Arusha and depart.
