Explore the best of South Africa on this classic itinerary, which operates in both directions between Johannesburg and Cape Town. It is our most popular small group touring experience. Airfares are extra, which we can arrange.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1. Arrive Cape Town (or Johannesburg). You'll be met at the airport by our representative and transferred to your hotel. At leisure to explore the city and famous waterfront.

Day 2. Cape Winelands. Journey into the beauty and tranquility that is the Cape Winelands. Sip some of South Africa's finest wines at two well-known estates in Paarl and Stellenbosch. A visit to the Huguenot Memorial also provides a historical perspective. B
Day 3. Cape Peninsula. A full day's touring of the ruggedly beautiful Cape Peninsula. We stop at the fishing village of Hout Bay, where you can opt to take a cruise (own expense) to Seal Island. Continue along the Indian Ocean coastline to Boulders Beach for close encounters with the penguins. We drive through the quaint village of Simon's Town on our way back to Cape Town. B
Day 4. Cape Town to Oudtshoorn. We travel via 'Route 62' (South Africa's version of 'Route 66') to Oudtshoorn, known as the 'Feather Capital of the World'. After a fascinating tour of an ostrich farm, we continue to our Oudtshoorn hotel. B

Day 5. Oudtshoorn to Knysna. This morning we go underground to marvel at the icy formations in the Cango Caves, one of South Africa's most spectacular natural wonders. We then drive via the spectacular Outeniqua Pass to George, then onto Knysna in the heart of the famous Garden Route. Spend the rest of the day at leisure in Knysna to explore art galleries, craft shops and coffee bars. BD

Day 6. Enjoying Knysna. Cruise on the vast Knysna Lagoon, and visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Enjoy an amazing view of the imposing sandstone 'Heads' which guard the sea entrance to Knysna's huge tidal lagoon, and the forests, marshes and pristine beaches surrounding it. After lunch spend the rest of the day at leisure. BL
Day 7. (Sat) Port Elizabeth to Umhlanga (Durban). We get to Port Elizabeth via the glorious indigenous Tsitsikamma Forest. Board a mid afternoon flight to Durban (cost of flight not included). There you'll be met and transferred to your Umhlanga hotel for the night. B
7 day passengers depart the tour in Port Elizabeth.

Day 8. (Sun) Kingdom of the Zulus. 7 Day Durban to Johannesburg passengers join tour this morning. Travel to the Kingdom of the Zulus via the lush north coast of KwaZulu-Natal to visit a vibrant cultural village. Thrill to the sight of Zulu dancers performing to the beat of drums; sample traditional Zulu beer and watch women craft clay pots and intricate beadwork. After a hearty lunch, we proceed to the village of St. Lucia. BL

Day 9. Swaziland. The day begins with a motor launch cruise amid the breathtaking wilderness of Lake St. Lucia, a World Heritage Site. Back on dry land we drive into the tiny kingdom of Swaziland, where we enjoy a visit to the interesting Swazi Candle Factory. BLD

Day 10. Swaziland to Kruger National Park. We enter the vast Kruger National Park through its southern most gate and head north to our hotel in time for a welcome sundowner (own account). BD
Kruger - Rest Camp or similar (2 nights)
Day 11. Exploring Kruger National Park. A full day safari experience. We set off before breakfast in open safari vehicles in search of lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard, and all manner of wondrous wildlife, birds and plants. B
Day 12. The Lowveld & Panorama Route. Explore living history in the form of Pilgrim's Rest, the old mining village where gold was first discovered; gasp at the glory that is God's Window, a boundless view of forested mountains, fertile plains, and view the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, one of the natural wonders of Africa. BD
The Royal Hotel
Day 13. Pretoria and Johannesburg. We leave Mpumalanga en route to Pretoria, one of South Africa's capital cities. After lunch, we proceed on a tour, tracing South Africa's extraordinary history with visits to Kruger Museum and the Voortrekker Monument. Arrive in Johannesburg in the late afternoon. B

Day 14. (Sat) Depart Johannesburg. The end of the tour. Check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight home. Why not stay on longer and visit Victoria Falls? B
