 From the gumboot dances that originated in the gold mines to the drumbeat rhythms of Zululand, South Africa has its own unique sounds, and this two-week tour introduces visitors to the country’s exciting range of musical styles and performing arts traditions. Start in Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city, and tour the township of Soweto and enjoy an evening of local music or dance. Transfer to the Sabi Sands, the country’s richest game viewing area, for two nights at the ultra-deluxe Singita lodge. Three nights at Singita allows time to do plenty of game viewing as well as visit Justicia township to see some authentic gumboot dancing! Continue to Durban for a very special afternoon with a local music specialist – the itinerary will depend on what’s happening that day but it will not disappoint! Next, it’s on to Zululand, where legendary Graham Chenells will introduce you to the songs, dance and drums of Zululand, a very special treat. On the drive to Drakensberg, stop to hear the magnificent and world-famous Drakensberg Boys Choir before spending the night in the Champagne Valley. The trip concludes in Cape Town and the Winelands region, where you will hear live jazz, see famous “ghetto poet” Jethro Louw, and enjoy an outdoor concert in Stellenbosch.
