Warmed by the African sun, Cape Town is dominated by a towering, tableshaped mountain, set on a peninsula of soaring, rocky heights and lush valleys. Generations of explorers and adventurers called this city the "Tavern of the Seas" — a place for weary seafarers to rest and replenish in an idyllic setting.

Day 4: Cape Town/Cape Point/Franschhoek The Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point are blessed with a rugged beauty and indigenous wildlife worlds away from the bush. The reserve, which covers 22,000 acres of land, converges in the south at Cape Point, a great pinnacle of rock. You have the opportunity to climb the steps or ride a funicular railway, the "Flying Dutchman," to the top, where you may see southern right whale in spring. You also have the chance to view some resident seal and a colony of endangered African penguin — a rare and rewarding experience. After lunch, continue to Franschhoek and your hotel located on a wine estate. A guest speaker provides fascinating insight into South Africa's intriguing past during this evening's dinner.

From this vantage point you can see the green Zambezi sweep over the cliff, plunging into the wild white foam. Continue overland to Chobe National Park, the second largest national park in Botswana and home to the largest concentration of elephant in Africa. The park has a variety of habitats, including the riverfront area where elephant, hippo and buffalo often congregate. Bordering the park is Chobe Chilwero ("place of high view" in the local language of Setswana), your award-winning safari lodge where each cottage has its own en suite bathroom with a large bath, indoor and outdoor showers and a private garden.
