Day 3 Hong Kong/Chengdu Fly to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, an area renowned for its scenic beauty. This afternoon, visit the Wuhousi Temple, a monument to second-century military strategist Zhuge Liang, still revered for his wisdom today. Shangri-La Hotel, Xian B L D
Day 4 Chengdu Visit the Panda Research Institute, one of the premier facilities in China fighting to preserve this endangered national icon. Follow this with a stop at the Sanxingdui Bronze Museum, which houses items excavated from a site believed to have been inhabited some 3,000 years ago. Proceed to the archaeological site of Jinsha, whose culture rose to prominence around 1000 BC. After dinner, attend a traditional bian lian performance by the Sichuan Opera, a distinctive Sichuan art form in which the performers' elaborate masks change with astonishing speed. Day 7 Jiuzhaigou/Chengdu/Emei Shan Fly to Chengdu and drive to Emei Shan, one of the four most sacred Buddhist mountains in China. Day 10 Kunming/Stone Forest/ Kunming Visit Kunming's most renowned attraction, the Stone Forest. Day 13 Lijiang/Zhongdian (Shangri- La) En route to Zhongdian, round the first bend in the Yangzi River and explore the town of Shigu (Stone Drum), a typical Naxi village.
