This in-depth program focuses on Burma's dynamic artistic traditions, including lacquerware, tribal weavings, temple paintings, jewelry, traditional clothing, tapestries, puppetry, and pottery. Begin with a two-night stay in Yangon, with city touring and an excursion to Twante.. Travel to Bagan for touring of the temples and the nearby village of Salay; both towns are centers of lacquerware production. Fly to Mandalay for a three-night stay. Tour the city, markets, and nearby craft villages and hill towns famed for puppetry, textiles, silver and goldsmithing, paper making, and antique shops. Travel to the Pindaya with its famous limestone caves, where pilgrims have left Buddha statues over the years, before continuing to lovely Inle Lake. Visit the tribal markets, the weaving village of Inpawkho, and Shan villages known for pottery and papermaking before returning to Yangon.
