Surprise!!! There is so much to see and do on this small island. The world's first night safari is only the latest unexpected attraction from the Garden City of the East. Infinite delights await the visitor in this clean and vibrant tropical city. Offering an exciting variety of festivals, religions, cultures and cuisine, Singapore offers the traveler a comfortable reprieve during any extended journey with her excellent facilities and strategic location, offering easy access to Asia's major tourist destinations.

What is most remarkable about Singapore is that each major group of immigrants has managed to preserve their cultural heritage in the food, arts, commerce and religious beliefs which are essential elements of the unique Singapore lifestyle. Close to three-fourths of the population is of Chinese descent and the faded beauty of Chinatown still lingers in the narrow streets lined with two and three-story Victorian shophouses. Chinatown fervently maintains a traditional market atmosphere brimming with carvings and calligraphy, bamboo birdcages and ornate temples, herbalists and gastronomic delicacies . Visit the Sri Mariamman Temple for evening prayers, the oldest Hindu shrine on the island known for its art deco and almost surreal collage of elaborate frescoes and colorful deities. With ironworks from Scotland, Delft and English tiles , and tall granite pillars with the classical dragon motif, the break of dawn is the best time to visit the Temple of Heavenly Happiness .
Singapore is perfect for leisurely strolls through distinctive neighborhoods. Arab Street emerged as a separate ethnic quarter with the influx of Arab and Malay traders. The call for prayer emanates from the impressive gold-domed Sultan's Mosque and can be heard throughout the surrounding streets and alleys where batik and basketry, caneware and rattan, jewelry and Muslim icons spill out on the sidewalks. Hindu immigrants live in the small enclave known as Little India whose attractions include markets filled with spices and saris, fish and fruit, stones and silk . If late colonial architecture is more your style, then visit the Colonial Quarter encompassing the central green (Padang) . Orchard Road is a busy electric strip of boutiques, restaurants, hotels and nightclubs, recognized as the world's premier shopping and entertainment mecca .
Due to the meticulous weave of urban development and ecological concerns, Singapore is often referred to as the Garden City . During your stay, we highly recommend a day focused on the island's green zones. The Botanical Gardens contain over 2,000 species of tropical and subtropical flora including the world's largest collection of orchids . Have breakfast with an orangutan at the Zoological Gardens , acclaimed to have some of the finest wildlife specimens. Adjoining the zoo is the Night Safari Park featuring nocturnal animals in 47 different habitats from the Himalayan foothills to the rainforest of Borneo.
Jurong Bird Park is a large walk-through aviary, haven to over 5,000 birds representing over 450 species set in a large shady environment. Nearby, the Chinese and Japanese Gardens provide an excellent contrast in the landscaping styles of these cultures. Visit the Haw Par Villa , a kaleidoscopic Chinese theme park ideal for high-tech virtual reality and mythological adventure. Be sure to wear your walking shoes to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve located on the slopes of Singapore's highest hill with panoramic views of the city and features nature walks and encounters with flying lemurs, long-tailed monkeys and tropical squirrels .
We can arrange for great overnight escapes at a number of islands just south of the main island. From Mt. Farber, a cable car transports you to Sentosa Island , known for its many attractions as well as the coconut-palmed beaches. Hilly St. John's Island features jungle walks and beach bungalows. Kusu Island is small and quiet with pristine swimming lagoons and gold-sand beaches sacred to the Taoists and Malay who make annual pilgrimages to the Tua Pekong Temple and hilltop Malay shrine.
