Begin in Bangkok, one of the world’s most exciting cities and one of extremes. Visit the evocative ruins of Ayutthaysa, the second Thai kingdom from 1350 until the city was destroyed by invading Burmese in 1765. Continue northward to Angkhang and its nature resort for outdoor activities and visits to nearby hill tribes. In Chiang Mai see an elephant training camp, exotic temples, mountains, and markets.
Tour Itinerary
Days 1-4 Bangkok Visit the exclusive collection of ancient artifacts at the Prasart Museum and wander through the elaborate Grand Palace complex, a beautiful example of an ancient Siamese court. Tour the ancient ruins of the former Thai capital, Ayutthaya. Afterwards depart for Bang-Pa-In, the former summer palace of King Rama V. Cruise down the Chao Phraya River aboard the Shangri-La Horizon. View everyday life along the waterways, including colorful floating markets. One evening attend an authentic Thai Kick Boxing event. Day 5 Mae Hong Son Fly to Mae Hong Son to visit both peoples and temples. Visit a Karen hill tribe village and the Padong village, home of the long-necked Giraffe Women tribe. Drive southwards to visit the “Meo Micro Wave” hill tribe village and the Burmese-style temples Wat Jong Kham and Wat Jong Klang, with its 100-year-old glass paintings and woodcarvings. Day 8 Doi Angkhang Continue northward to Angkhang where a nature resort offers activities such as biking, trekking and bird watching, and visits to nearby hill tribes. Angkhang Nature Resort.
Days 9-10 Doi Angkhang to Chiang Rai Today you will continue to Chiang Rai via Thatorn on a long-tail boat journey down the Kok River, passing tiny hill tribe villages, bamboo huts and jungle.
