With input from our loyal customers, we’ve built world-class facilities in a sub-Arctic angler’s paradise that’s yours to enjoy!
Trophy Fishing
Trophy Lake Trout Fishing
Deep water residents haunt the rocky reefs below— in size and numbers greater than your dreams can imagine. Ghostly predators, they prowl the shoals for ciscoes, viciously attacking whatever poor victim should happen to flutter by...like your big ol’ Red-Eye spoon!
Monster Canadian LakeTrout inhabit Nueltin's big water and are taken trolling shallow in the spring. As the season progresses, the fish move deeper and relate to bottom structure, when heavy long-line trolling and deep jigging tactics come into play. Whatever the season, your expert fishing guide will be able to put you on fish. You just have to be geared up to catch ‘em.
Trophy Northern Pike Fishing
Sharking the shallows in constant competition with the countless other monsters lurking nearby, the lone pike circles its territory. Invade it and be met with all the slashing, splashing fury only a 20-plus pounder can muster... which may be more than you can.
Northern Pike inhabit any number of shallow bays and backwaters throughout Nueltin Lake in spring and early summer. As the season progresses, they tend to move a bit deeper, relating to the breakline. You’ll find yourself casting weedy shallows early, moving out to rocky points by midsummer, and trolling deep weedlines later in the year. As always, your knowledgeable fishing guide knows the best way to put you on Pike during your Canadian fishing adventure.
Arctic Grayling
Aerial acrobatics abound amidst the rushing river rapids. The Arctic Grayling are on the fly, running upstream to pick off whatever insect they can devour— whatever minnow they can inhale. Little do they know your bluetail streamer is lurking... and they’re about to go ballistic.
Like all trout, Canada's Arctic Grayling prefer moving water, and feed with the current, which you find through the inlets of Nueltin Lake. Active fish will be found near rapids, lying in ambush positions behind rocks or in the slack water near eddies and current breaks. Cast upstream and work the lure back with the current through these fish-holding hotspots, and you’ll get a taste of some of the most exciting fishing on the continent.
Technique: Casting streams and rapids Rod: 6” Ultra-Light or Light action spinning. Preferably 2-piece. Reel: Light spinning with high quality drag. Line: 4-6# mono. Lures: Small single-hook spoons and in-line spinners, 1/16th oz. jig/plastic combos.
Technique: Fly Fishing | Working flies and streamers through current Rod: 4-5 wt. Reel: Light line spool with high quality drag. Line: Weight-forward or double-tapered floating with 8-10” tapered leader and 3X-6X tippet. Lures: Insect-immitating flies, minnow-immitating streamers in sizes 10-16.
Exciting Fly-Out Adventures
Nueltin Fly-In Lodge's fleet of float-equipped aircraft are available to take you to many remote locations on and around Nueltin Lake. Your Canadian fishing trip just turned into a Canadian fishing adventure. Experience a day fly-out, or overnight fly-out… often to locations that have never been fished before!
Boats Refurbished at Fly-Outs!
Operating in a location as remote as ours makes moving boats to and from fly-out locations difficult and expensive. Each boat must be strapped to the outside of one of our float-equipped aircraft and flown as an external load to each location, a costly and labor-intensive proposition.
Last season, Just Boats Inc. brought a crew north and began refurbishing our fly-out boats. The three-man crew was able to carry all the equipment they needed directly to the various sites and restore our fleet to good-as-new condition.
Excellent news for anglers looking to enjoy our remote cabins and day fly-out locations!
Live Release Fishery Since 1978
Fishing is better than ever thanks to our commitment to Live Release. We’re proud of the fact that the Nueltin Lake area is Canada’s first officially-designated Live Release Only fishery. That’s why we insist on the strict use of barbless hooks and the prompt release of all trophy fish... right after you’ve snapped the photos for your all-important braggin’ rights.

Fly Fishing at Nueltin Fly-In Lodges
Each year, we see dozens of anglers unpack their fly rod and reels along with their other favorite spinning and casting equipment. There may be no better method for catching northern pike than with a #9 or #10 wt fly rod and a large pike fly.
Pike will often follow your spoons, spinner baits and other metal hardware right up to the boat, only to turn away without striking. A well presented Dahlberg Diver or Lefty’s Deceiver will generate an instant hook-up when all other lures in your tackle box are rejected. Many other pike flies will have the same result.
It’s not uncommon for a well equipped fly angler will routinely out fish a spinning or casting presentation 10 to 1! There is just something magic about a flies ability to start and stop, and just hang motionless in the water. It really is a great way to catch northern pike when the weather conditions are right (light winds). Best conditions are moderate wind conditions, fishing shallow bays in early June or over cabbage weeds in July and August. It’s an experience like no other! In June and in the Fall there’s also an opportunity to catch lake trout using fly fishing equipment.
Northern Pike & Lake Trout:
* 9 ft- 9wt. (4 piece ) Rods: Take a look at Cabela's, Sage, St. Croix rods and others. * 8-10 Wt Fly Reel with a smooth drag system: Ross, Abel, Tabor, Scientific Angler all make quality fly reels. * Fly Line: 9 wt.- Weight forward, floating fly line: Scientific Anglers, Cabela’s, Cortland. * 9 ft-12# test tapered leaders
Arctic grayling:
All of the above manufacturers offer lighter weight rods and reels for river and stream fishing for Arctic grayling. Rods, reels with weight forward floating line in the 4-6 wt. class will be perfect! Black nat and ant patterns are the usual fly selection.
Visit your local Cabela’s fly fishing department or other well equipped fly shops before leaving home. Most will be more than happy to help you select the correct rod, reel and terminal connections. Our lodge tackle shop also carries a nice selection of flies and other fly fishing gear appropriate for the fish species and situations you will find at Nueltin Fly In Lodges.
Fishing Tackle Recommendations
* 6’-7’ medium-heavy action spinning or bait casting rods for Northern Pike and Lake Trout. * 4'-5' ultra-light spinning rods for Arctic Grayling.
Reels:
* Medium to med/heavy spinning reels (10-12 lb. test line) and casting reels (17-20 lb. test line) to battle Northern Pike and Lake Trout. * Ultra-light spinning reels spooled with 4-6 pound Trilene XT are suitable for Arctic Grayling.
Lures:
*Note: Manitoba law and Nueltin Fly In Lodges management require barb-less hooks and only one (1) single hook per lure.(This will effect the lures you select and pack to bring North with you.) Barbs can be pinched down with pliers in the boat. Barb’s don’t have to be filed flat before you arrive at the lodge.)
Northern Pike:
Proven fish catching lures may include a variety of bass spinner baits, Dare Devils, Five-O-Diamonds, Johnson Silver Minnow, #4 -#5 Mepps Spinners, Suick “jerk baits”, top-water plugs, Sluggo type worms, and a “Jig’n Pig” combination can also work wonders in the cabbage weeds. Make sure to pack some 9" ball-bearing swivels/steel leaders to prevent these nasty Northern Pike from cutting your line.
Lake Trout:
A variety of running spoons for trolling are necessary for Lake Trout. You will also want to have weighted, three-way swivel rigs or portable down riggers for an effective method for catching lake trout consistently. A variety of colored 2-4 oz. jigs tipped with Mr. Twister tails or Berkley Power Baits for deeper holes can also come in handy.
Arctic Grayling:
Mepps, Panther Martin & Blue Fox spinners in size 00 or 0 (smallest size they make). A spinning rigged with a small bobber 2-3 feet up the line from a fly can be very effective. The bobber will act as a strike-detector. Use a Fur Ant (black & cinnamon colors), Royal Wulff, Caddis, Adams, others. The dominate color choice is usually black. Fly hook size: #12-#18.
Check with the lodge tackle shop for current “hot lures”.

Boats & Tackle for Your Angling Adventure
Nueltin "Work Stations" Feature Top Quality Equipment
When you plan your Canada fishing trip, you need to be confident in not only your guide, but also the boats you're planning on spending a lot of time in. Safety and comfort are our primary concerns, and we strive to keep our equipment current in not only at our main lodge, but at our mini-lodges and fly-out locations too.
Knowing the importance of a dependable motor, we replace our outboards with new Mercury motors every year. Our outboard needs to start on the first pull, idle for hours when trolling for big lake trout, and be quiet and fuel efficient.
You'll find that our expert guides know the thousands of square miles of Nueltin waters as good or better than any map or electronincs. However, Eagle FishEasy depth finders are available to reinsure you the depth of the water you're fishing, structure and drop off points, bottom surface feature, and if the fish are suspended or hanging out at the bottom of a deep hole.
Our number one goal is to put you on as many trophy sized Canadian Lake Trout, Northern Pike, and Arctic Grayling you're able to catch during your trip to Nueltin.

This navigational aid will nearly eliminate weather delays and ensure your valuable vacation time will be spent on the water. Although this project was costly and time-consuming, the work done adds value to our service.
