Pitt River Lodge is British Columbia's Premier Fly and Spey fishing destination. The sheer diversity of our fish species and abundance is why America Angler Magazine rated the Pitt River as one of the top two, Fishing in Canada, rivers. Our specialty is fly fishing for silvers (coho), springs (Kings), sockeye, pink salmon, chum, steel head and five different trout species.

Our unique river feeds into one of the only two freshwater tidal lakes in the world and being only 40 miles from the ocean our salmon come in bright and powerful for incredible acrobatic performances. We also do Fraser River fishing trips for ancient sturgeon and have some of the most knowledgeable fishing guides for this fabled sea monster. When hooked it will give you a memory you will never forget!

Along a wilderness road that winds its way along the river through the Pitt River Valley lies Pitt River Lodge. It is nestled at the north end of British Columbia's spectacular Pitt Lake, the largest freshwater tidal lake in North America. Far from the maddening crowd, this isolated and remote location is surrounded by the forests of three parks, Garibaldi, Golden Ears and Pine Cone Burke. The Pacific Coastal Mountain Range isolates and protects all that live in this secluded valley bottom and our location beside this glacier fed river enables us to be the closest true wilderness fishing lodge to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Due in fact to our secluded location with no roads and being boat and air access only we are surrounded by phenomenal catch and release fishing which is our specialty.

Pitt River Lodge staff of professional guides are waiting to take you and your friends on an unforgettable float down the spectacular Pitt River where you can see bear, deer, Roosevelt elk and eagles.

January-May: Steelhead, Cutthroat, Bull trout.
Steelhead begin returning January and peak at the end of March. The steelhead are all wild, and average 6-12 pounds with some as big as 15 pounds. Along with the steelhead you’ll catch many Bull trout in the 3-6 pound range. A day’s catch and release of 30-40 Bull trout plus a couple of steelhead is not uncommon.
-Bring egg sucking leech patterns, Squamish poachers.

May-August: Sea run Bull Trout, Cutthroat, rainbows.
The bull trout in this system are extremely aggressive, powerful and average between 4-12 pounds, with some up to 15 pounds.
They attack large leech patterns or fry imitations. A fast sink line is recommended.

August-September: Sockeye, Bull Trout, Cutthroat and Rainbow trout.
From the first week of August until the 3rd week, the largest sockeye by weight in the world return to the Pitt River. Still chrome, these huge fish run up to 15 pounds and are renowned for their wild fighting abilities. After the 3rd week they begin to lose their color as they get ready to spawn. Bull trout, cutts and rainbows are all feeding on the sockeye eggs and are very aggressive.
Bring egg patterns, leeches, Muddler minnows and at least 10lb test line.

September-December: Coho, Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout and Bull trout.
From the end of September the largest run of all wild coho in British Columbia returns to the upper Pitt. As many as 15-20 thousand coho will be in the system with over 7,000 Bull trout.

Bring: Minnow patterns, leach patterns Kelsey’s Hope.

October-May: Bull trout, Steelhead, Cutthroat, Rainbow Trout.
There is no end! Throughout the coldest months of winter the water drops and clears, but the fish are still accessible and available!

All trips during the winter are planned according to the weather.
The Upper Pitt is a unique river, glacier fed from ice fields high in nearby Garibaldi Park. This river offers exceptional fly fishing. Broad gravel bars make casting easy.

Coho, and Bull trout often hold in knee deep water. Rainbows and cutthroat can be found in quick runs, where they will rise to a dry fly or take a small minnow pattern.
The river is under catch and release regulations, for all species, and only a single barbless hook can be used. Due to the variety of fish in the system, and changing river conditions, fly fishermen are advised to bring a variety of lines, from floating to fast sink. Under some circumstances a rapid sink line is all that will work, so make sure you have one on an extra spool.

For your comfort make sure to bring chest waders with belt as the Pitt is fed by snowmelt and glaciers and is cold even in the summer~

There are so many reasons why a guide is vital anywhere in the world but on the Pitt River the need is even more acute. The need for the raft is critical as the water levels change constantly making it hard to access many spots of the river without one. With the raft you will enjoy peacefully drifting the entire length of the river, stopping to walk and wade from both sides of the shore along the way.

All of the guides have the imperative skills of very keen eyes and great knowledge of our local rivers from how the variety of species in our river behave to the entomology required as the season progresses- these skills are a vital qualification for them to work at Pitt River Lodge. Our guides understand that not everyone has the same fishing skills or wants to walk at a fast pace. They are skilled not only at teaching but at tailoring each individual day to suit the many and varied requirements of our guests.
