Boeri Lake Difficulty: moderate Starting point: Freshwater Lake The path to Boeri Lake begins at Freshwater Lake and is a moderate 1-1/4 mile walk. The path is rocky and can be slippery so be careful, especially in the rain. The lake sits at an elevation of 2,800 ft and covers some four acres. Fed by rainfall and runoff, the water level varies with the seasons. Sitting on the lower reaches of Morne Macaque (also known locally known as Morne Micotrin).
Middleham Falls Difficulty: moderate Starting Point: 5 miles northeast of Roseau, in Laudat The trek to Middleham Falls leads into the heart of the rainforest. The falls are striking--a narrow stream drops about 200 ft from a keyhole notch in the lip of the cliff. Take time to strip down and brace yourself for a chilly dip! A shallow cave to the left of the falls makes a great place to sit and watch the action before diving into the water. Though there are two trails to Middleham Falls, the more popular trail begins off the Roseau-Laudat road. From the Welcome Center, the trailhead is less than two miles from the falls. You start at 1,600 ft and climb to a ridge at 2,200 ft and then descend back down to the falls themself. Round trip normally takes 3 hours, relatively long and hilly, the trail is not especially difficult. This hike can be done on your own, but the trail is not as well maintained as it once was. Consider a guide will ensure that you don't get hurt or lost.
Sari-Sari Falls Difficulty: moderate Starting point: La Plaine (southeast coast) Sari-Sari Falls is off the East road. After parking next to the Banana field, you begin descending down a steep incline to the bed of the Sari-Sari River. You will travel along the river bed, crossing several times as the exact path you travel depends on the flow of the river. The hike is only about a mile each way, can be slippery when wet. Sari-Sari is a beautiful waterfall, but most of its appeal is its location on the remote Atlantic side of the island.
Victoria Falls Difficulty: moderate Starting point: Delices (southeast coast) Victoria Falls can also be approached from the East coast and combinable with Sari-Sari Falls. The trailheads are close together and each is relatively short, so you can easily do both in an afternoon, if you're up to it! Fed by the White River, it is so named because of it's white color--the mineral content--and main source Boiling Lake. The mineral content of the water also lends the falls the same ruddy white color, while the cliff face and the boulders at the base of the falls show a rich rust color from mineral deposits. By the way, don't drink the water--it tastes bad and can't be good for you! To get to the trailhead, drive down a dirt road through the village of Delices and stop near the river. Make your way to the riverbed, crossing it several times. The last 15 minutes involves walking up the river gorge and climbing boulders. The hike should take less than 45 minutes each way...but take all the time you want and enjoy the nature island of the Caribbean, Dominica!
