Calabash Hotel
The Calabash Hotel & Villas enjoys a secluded bay setting on the Caribbean island of Grenada. Intimate, private and relaxing, Calabash offers suite accommodation, gourmet cuisine directed by Gary Rhodes and high standards of personal service.
The powdery sands of L'Anse Aux Épines beach are breeze-cooled and palm-studded, perfect for gentle sunbathing or relaxing in the shade with a drink from Jefferson's beach bar. Prickley Bays warm waters are calm and inviting for swimmers or further out scuba divers can enjoy all that is good in the Caribbean sea.
The hotel has thirty suites housed in ten buildings which are arranged in a horseshoe in eight acres of tropical gardens, these comprise superior, whirlpool or plunge pool suites. All have balconies or patios where breakfast is served by your own maid.
Our villas are set in a nineteen acre development, accessed from the hotel they offer a very high standard of luxury accommodation and all the services of The Calabash.
Calabash Hotel Accommodation
Calabash has thirty suites arranged in a horseshoe within eight acres of tropical gardens. The suites are divided into 4 main categories: Westside, Whirlpool, Superior Whirlpool and Pool. All have balconies or patios where breakfast is served by your own personal maid.
All suites have air conditioning, ceiling fans, showers, whirlpool baths, hair dryers, CD player, clock radios, iron & ironing boards, lounge area, patio or balcony, mini bars, wall safes and tea and coffee making facilities.
All suites have TV's and DVD players.

Calabash Hotel Restaurant
The 'rhodes restaurant' at Calabash was opened in January 2004 and has proved a real hit with residents of Calabash and outside diners alike. The à la carte menu developed specifically for Calabash by Gary Rhodes places a high importance on locally grown seasonal produce, all of which is supplied by the best sources as approved by Gary.
Our kitchen and restaurant staff have been fully trained by Gary and the majority have obtained City and Guilds qualifications, Calabash is the only hotel in the Caribbean to be a certified base of City and Guilds.
Calabash's 'rhodes restaurant' is popular locally and invariably busy each night, so if you are a hotel resident and have booked to stay with us on our breakfast plan (BP) please make a table reservation with Reception for the nights that you wish to dine with us. If you are booked to stay with us on our Breakfast and Dinner plan (MAP) and wish to exchange lunch for dinner please inform Reception and we will make the necessary arrangements.
Villas
Amber Belair is a beautiful secluded peninsula situated directly to the west of the Calabash Hotel complex. Nestling on the water's edge where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea it offers one of the most tranquil, inspiring and secure locations in the Caribbean.
Meticulously planned as an exceptional residential development, Amber Belair offers exclusive private villas and a variety of recreational facilities within its unspoiled nineteen-acre site. Lapped by white sand beaches and warm blue waters, the development also benefits from the facilities of elegant and romantic Calabash Hotel, renowned for its award winning cuisine.
The Land plan for Amber Belair anticipates that each house will be designed and built to the highest architectural standards, capturing the essence of Caribbean architecture and blending carefully with the natural beauty of the setting. Each villa will have spectacular ocean views surrounded by lush, scented tropical gardens within a secluded and relaxed environment. The inspirational architect Arne Hasselqvist has designed several of the villas endowing Amber Belair with his elegant and distinctive signature.
Amber Belair is located within easy access to an international airport and an excellent range of shops and restaurants. The historic capital of St George's, one of the most beautiful towns of the Caribbean, is a short journey away. Excellent mooring facilities for yachts are available at a number of exclusive marinas nearby.
Swallow Villa
Designed by the late Arne Hasselqvist of Mustique Villa’s fame, elegant Swallow Villa offers sophisticated comfort in a convenient location. The villa has a very spacious gourmet kitchen adjoining the living and dining room area, a computer equipped office, a breezy covered patio area and three air conditioned bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. The king bedded master suite is enhanced by a large lavish master bath with whirlpool bath for two, mirrored walls, deluxe shower and a dressing room. French doors lead out to the covered patio and to the sunny pool deck and pool gazebo.The second bedroom is across the patio for excellent privacy, and the third, very separate bedroom is at the end of Swallow Villa’s blue tiled pool in its own pavilion. A hardwood staircase leads to the pavilion’s lower level and an exercise area with workout equipment and a sitting room.
Swallow villa is located close to The Calabash Hotel and Restaurant, a mini market and L’Anse aux Epines beach. A short drive away is picturesque St. George’s, Grand Anse beach and the airport. Swallow Villa is well situated to catch cool tropical breezes and lovely sunset views of Prickly Bay and yachts at anchor. Merle, Swallow Villa’s housekeeper and cook, is on hand to prepare meals daily (with groceries supplied by the guest) and to make your holiday in Grenada relaxing and carefree. Check in at The Calabash and upon arrival at Swallow Villa, your first evenings dinner with wine will await you as well as a welcome basket with breakfast items. Merle's normal working hours are 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday but she can be available for evening babysitting and can work weekends for an additional hourly rate.
Weddings
At The Calabash we get a considerable amount of couples who wish to get married at the hotel. Experience has shown us that to get a licence and to complete all of the necessary documentation, involves a lot of legwork around the various Government and Religious Ministries. In consequence we have put together a package in which we can assist with all the paperwork and arrange the ceremony.

State Requirements
1. Valid passports. 2. Both birth certificates. 3. Couple must reside in Grenada for a minimum of three working days. 4. A notarised lawyer’s letter confirming both has single status. 5. Relevant divorce papers if applicable. 6. If previous partner is deceased, then death certificate is required. 7. Minimum ages eighteen. 8. Written parental consent if under twenty-one. 9. Legal proof if name change by deed poll.
Activities
You'll find a huge amount of excursions and activities on offer when you arrive at The Calabash. Listed below are a number of these.
Samplers delight – 3 hour tour Tour covering nutmeg products, Fort Frederick, Morne Jaloux ridge, Grenada rum factory and Arawak Islands spices & perfumes.
Seven Sisters Rainforest Walk – 1.5 hours A delightful walk around Grand Etang National park. Cool and away from the crowds!
Grenada in a nutshell – Full Island tour – 8 Hours This includes views, history, spices, and lunch at a plantation house and beach time.
Whale Watching – 4 hours See sperm and pilot whales and get acquainted with the friendly dolphins. The Boat trip includes drinks and sandwiches on board.
Grenadines fly and sail cruise – 8 hours See the fabulous Grenadines by air on a panoramic 25-minute flight. Sail on the Schooner Scaramouche to the Tobago Cays: 5 uninhabited Islands, palm fringed white sandy beaches, crystal clear water and wonderful snorkelling. Also see Palm Island, a resort island surrounded by reefs. A fine lunch is cooked on board, complete with wine and coffee, drinks will flow throughout the cruise.
St. George's Market and Garden tour – 3 hours Experience market day in St.George's with a local Grenadian guide. Visit Fort George and exotic Bay Gardens where refreshing drinks await you.
Homes & Gardens A leisurely visit to two superbly manicured private gardens. One of which was featured in 'Gardens of the Caribbean' on UK TV: a riot of flowering shrubs and trees.
South Coast Sailing- 4 or 7 hours Enjoy the beauty of Grenada's south coast from a luxury yacht, with delicious food, drinks and stops for snorkelling.
Market and falls tour – 5 hours Experience Country life. Drive through lush mountains to colourful Grenville market on the Atlantic coast. Be adventurous and taste some of the wide variety of local fruits and dishes on sale. See Marquis falls, one of the highest on the Island, stop for a swim on the way home at the parish of St. David's.
Carriacou Tour – 8 hours Visit the sister island of Carriacou, it has fine beaches, good snorkelling and views to many other small islands.
Deep Sea Fishing Fish commonly caught in the waters around the Island are: Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Yellow fin Tuna, Barracuda and Jacks. Half and full day charters are available.
Turtle Watching Large Leatherback Turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. As an endangered species there are local groups which are trying to preserve these beautiful creatures from extinction.
River Tubing Take a thrilling ride down the Balthazar river surrounded by wooded hills and exotic flora and fauna Fish Friday Drive to Gouyave and experience the taste of fish,shrimp and lobster prepared on the spot. Enjoy the local bread 'bake' ,rum punch and sweet Steel Band music
Scuba Diving
ScubaTech – YOUR friendly Dive & Snorkel Center is located on the Calabash beach.
They offer the full range of recreational diving and courses for beginners and advanced divers. ScubaTech is the only dive center on Grenada which provides technical- and rebreather diving and offers Nitrox up to 40% for free for all their divers!
The private jetty on our property guarantees you easy access to the boat at all times. You also can do snorkeling, sightseeing and sunset trips with ScubaTech.
Facilities

• Communications The Calabash has telephone and telefax facilities for our guests as well as E-mail and internet access. It is also possible to use your PC from your room. Wireless is available throughout the hotel, please contact the Front Desk for the password.
• Car Hire Can be arranged at the hotel. A current driving licence is required to obtain a Grenadian licence which is issued at a cost of EC$30. The car hire with collision waiver insurance is approximately EC$180 or US$70 per day.
