7 Days Guadeloupe Biking Adventure Tour Package Duration: 7 Days / 6 Nights Priced From: $5,995 pp dbl. occ. Dates: Nov Start/Finish: Gosier/Pointe-à-Pitre
We’ve always got our eyes peeled for spectacular cycling destinations for serious riders. So when we heard the island of Guadeloupe was the winter training ground for many Tour de France teams, we had to check it out for ourselves. Armed with little more than bikes and bathing suits, we found more than we dreamed of on this tiny butterfly-shaped speck of land in the Caribbean Sea: ideal cycling conditions, heavenly beaches, hotels dripping with character, and rich island culture.
Whether traversing fields of sugar cane by bike, sipping cocktails with a local historian or island-hopping on-board a private catamaran, we veered off the beaten track and discovered a wonderful cycling destination that offers much more than meets the wheels.
Trip Highlights
• Enjoy a private soirée in a rum distillery • Visit the tiny island of Terre-de-Haut where we’ve uncovered secret bays, great little restaurants and art galleries • Bike over rolling island hills and along gloriously untrafficked roads • Get a taste of a bygone era on Marie-Galante, “the island of one hundred mills,” where oxcart is still a main mode of transport • Hike through lush rain forest to the summit of imposing La Soufriere, a dormant volcano
Accommodations
La Cocoteraie, St-François
Aptly described as “Caribbean bliss meets French panache,” La Cocoteraie is the most luxurious hotel in Guadeloupe. Entering the lobby, you are overcome with the serenity of the islands. Need we say more?
Auberge Les Petits Saints, La Savane (Terre-de-Haut)
One of the most prestigious yet quirky addresses in Guadeloupe, this property is a true find. Owners Jean and Laurence have travelled the world in order to decorate every room with antiques… and if you like what you see, every piece of furniture is for sale! Set on the island hillside, the hotel consists of a colourful main building and little bungalows that surround a peaceful pool.
Le Jardin Malanga, Trois Rivières
A colonial house set in the midst of breathtaking tropical gardens, the property features tastefully simple rooms decorated with crisp white sheets and mahogany furniture. In a word: serene.
