This tour unique tour company is dedicated to taking travelers beyond Jamaica’s prisitine beaches for once in a lifetime cultural encounters, allowing visitors to see the value villagers place on their heritage. These tours often begin in a local home with a breakfast of ackee and saltfish- Jamaica’s national dish. From there, the tour contains an in depth look at Rastafarian culture, a private concert by a traditional mento band, and an opportunity to sample exotic food including fruit, peppered shrimp, peanut soup and coconut gizzarders.

Mocking Bird Hill

Owners of the Hotel Mocking Bird Hill have worked hard and made significant efforts to ensure the verdant vistas of the hotel remain. In order to do so, owners, Shireen Aga and Barbara Walker paired with the Jamaica Conservation Development Trust in order to plant blue mahoe and other trees in areas that have been deforested. A favorite description of theirs of the hotel is “guiltless indulgence”: they collect and use rainwater, recycle past paperwork into stationery and contribute to Sustainable Travel International in an attempt to offset the hotel’s carbon footprint. Cultural touches are added as well: rooms feature locally printed fabrics, Jamaican-made coconut soaps and lotions and sensational views from hammock-hung balconies.
