Fishing
Deep Sea Fishing, Bottom Fishing and Bone Fishing
Many say that Turks and Caicos fishing is the finest in the Caribbean and this is demonstrated by the ever increasing numbers of angling professionals who fish in the annual Bill Fish tournament in Providenciales and the Heineken Game Fishing Tournament in Grand Turk in July. The Atlantic Blue Marlin is plentiful all year and ranges in weight from 100 to 400 pound or more. It is the big game trophy fish each year when it seems new records are continually being set. What makes the fishing here extra special is that on the private charters you can ask your captain to arrange for your catch to be prepared at any one of the country's fine restaurants.
In Providenciales and in fact surrounding most of the Turks and Caicos Islands especially South Caicos is fertile fishing ground just minutes away from the shores. There are plenty of opportunities to take a fishing charter all you need is a visitors fishing license that costs $15 for one month. For plenty of bites the commonest form of fishing is Bottom and reef fishing which means you are likely to ride home with conch, snapper or many varieties of grouper. Bonefish are found in the shallower waters in the shallow flats and creeks in Provo or in the bonefish flats that stretch for 40 miles off of South Caicos . Sailfish and white marlin scout hang around between November to April while Barracuda like the Atlantic marlin is around all year round. In the summer months look out for the yellow fin and black fin tuna and Wahoo not to mention the large hammerhead and tiger sharks that have been caught in the deep.
Parasailing
The experience of soaring 300 feet above Grace Bay beach, the best beach in the Caribbean, is breathtaking. Parasailing is available along Provo's north shore and those adventurous enough to have this unforgettable and exciting experience can go solo or fly tandem. Children under 10 are half price.
Sailing The relaxation of a sailing trip, coasting along crystal clear turquoise waters is unmissable. The UK's Mail on Sunday in February 2002 described the waters Rhapsody In Blue: The turquoise waters off the Turks and Caicos are almost too beautiful to be true." Sail charters are available as well as regular sail trips. People can sail away for a whole day, explore an uninhabited island, have a picnic, go on a sunset or dinner cruise or even a Sunday brunch. There is a large variety of boats available from monohull, catamaran and trihull vessels.
Semi-Submarine Tours The semi-submarine Undersea Explorer tour is an adventure that begins when you board the craft located alongside the Tiki Hut Restaurant at the picturesque Turtle Cove Marina in Providenciales . As you leave the Marina, the waters will start to come alive with many hundreds of different tropical fish and spectacular coral formations. And if you are lucky, perhaps sting rays, sharks or even the world-famous Jo-Jo the dolphin might make an appearance. If you are worried about going too deep - don't. The Undersea Explorer has been specifically designed to stay just above the water with a lower observatory 5ft below the waves allowing passengers to see the Beautiful by Nature marvels. There are daily sailings from Turtle Cove Marina at 10am, 2pm and 4pm at a cost of $39 per adult and $29 per child (12yrs & under), including transportation from most hotels in the Grace Bay Area.
Windsurfing More adventurous watersports are always available. The clear and calm waters offer excellent opportunities for windsurfers to perfect their technique. Equipment and instruction is available for all levels and Provo's top instructor is located at Ocean Club.
