Tour Accommodations
Xandari Plantation
Xandari Resort & Spa comprises 19 spacious villas decorated with original art and custom-designed furniture, hidden away on a 40 acre coffee and fruit plantation overlooking Costa Rica’s Central Valley. The resort is the creation of architect Sherrill Broudy and artist Charlene Broudy, who envisioned a paradise reflecting the natural beauty of Costa Rica. Each villa is unique in design with a panoramic view of coffee fields and the Central Valley. All villas have a private view terrace with a garden, a walled-in sun area, a bar kitchen, and either a king bed or two full beds. Facilities include two lap swimming pools and outdoor heated Jacuzzi, central dining room.
Lapa Rios
This is the most spectacular eco-resort in Costa Rica, winning awards worldwide for its mix of conservation and comfort. It's one of only two hotels in the country to have (deservedly) garnered five leaves, the tourism ministry's top ecotourism designation. Spacious, airy cabins, built of gleaming hardwood with high, thatched roofs, have four-poster queen beds, up-to-date luxury bathrooms, and showers with one screened wall open to nature. Private teak-decked garden terraces allow you to view passing monkeys and toucans from a lounge chair. There's an infinity pool, a spa, and a new yoga deck. Inspired meals, served in a newly refreshed rancho with a soaring thatch roof, include lots of seafood, exotic local fruits and vegetables, and mouthwatering desserts. You can eat whenever -- and as much as -- you want.
Punta Islita
Overlooking the Pacific from a forested ridge, this exquisite, secluded hotel is luxury incarnate. Hidden around the hillside are villas, casitas, suites, and spacious rooms, each with a private porch and a hammock. Beds have rough-hewn wooden bedposts, and bathrooms are tiled, with deep tubs. Casitas have their own private plunge pools or outdoor whirlpools and private gardens, one of the main attractions for the many honeymooners. A massive thatched dome covers the restaurant and opens onto an infinity-edge pool with a sea view and a swim-up bar. If you overdo with activities here -- which include golfing, zip-line canopy tours (shorter and lower to the ground than most canopy tours), and mountain biking -- stop by the spa for unique massage treatments using local herbs.
