Itinerary
Day 1, Sat: USA / Belize City / Orange Walk area
Begin your holiday with a flight to Belize City. You are met and transferred on a combination road and river trip to your lodge amid a “lost city” of Mayan ruins. Watch for turtles and birds as you ply this ancient Maya trade route. Arrive at your remote lodge in spectacular surroundings. Lamanai Outpost (D)
Day 2, Sun: Orange Walk area
Explore the ruins of Lamanai, Mayan for “submerged crocodile”. Here you can sit on the ruler’s throne at the Temple of the Masks, and walk an ancient ball court. You can also learn about medicinal uses of native plants on a walk with a naturalist and in the evening, enjoy a night spotlight river safari down the New River, watching for mammals and crocodiles. Day 3, Mon: Orange Walk / Belize Zoo / San Ignacio area
Fly back to Belize City and transfer overland to the forested foothills of the Maya Mountains of Western Belize. En route, visit the Belize Zoo for close views of native wildlife – kinkajou, tapir, and large cats – all in natural habitats along forested pathways. Arrive at Chaa Creek’s adventure center, rainforest reserve and spa to enjoy a wilderness experience like none other. Chaa Creek – cottages (B,L,D)
Day 4 & 5, Tue & Wed: San Ignacio area
Our inclusive stay allows us to take advantage of daily activities such as walking, mountain biking and horseback riding along miles of private reserve trails. Other on-site activities include bird watching, swimming, canoeing, and guided tours of the Natural History Centre, Butterfly Farm, archaeological sites and the nearby Rainforest Medicinal Trail. Optional excursions off site (at additional cost) are available to Tikal in Guatemala, Xunantunich and Cahal Pech Maya Temple sites, the Mountain Pine Ridge waterfalls, swimming holes and Maya ceremonial caves. Day 6 & 7, Thu & Fri: Ambergris Caye
Depart the jungle wilderness for the watery wilderness of Ambergris Caye, Belize’s great launch site for explorations of the world’s second longest barrier reef. From Belize city, fly to the island hub of San Pedro and proceed to your bare-foot resort nestled among tall swaying palms on white sand beaches with an ambiance of relaxation, privacy and casual elegance. Day 8, Sat: Ambergris Caye / Belize City / USA
Another morning in paradise before transferring by air back to Belize city where you connecting with your departing flight to the USA. (B)
