Day 1, Sat: USA / San Jose
Begin your holiday with a flight to San Jose, where upon arrival, you are met and transferred to your prestigious resort. Melia Cariari Day 2, Sun: San Jose / La Paz Waterfalls / Arenal Volcano A dynamic day takes you to a traditional coffee estate in the highlands and La Paz Waterfall, where we feel the spray of its jewel-green waters, and walk the hummingbird, orchid and butterfly gardens. Arrive at your hotel in view of Arenal Volcano and its explosive nightly show. Montana de Fuego (B,L) Day 3, Mon: Arenal Volcano & Hot Springs This morning’s tour focus is on the primary neo-tropical rainforest that have become accessible through an ingeniously elaborate system of bridges and footpaths known as the Arenal Hanging Bridges. We shall get deep into the canopy, a world not usually seen from the ground. Later, soak, swim and splash in a natural hot spring pool at Hidalgo Farm. Montana de Fuego (B) Day 4, Tue: Arenal / Monteverde Travel today up the rough, steep road to Costa Rica’s premier conservation area, Monteverde, a highly diverse ecological community dripping with bright orchids, mosses, vines and ferns. This afternoon, glide through the treetops on the Sky Trek cable-and-harness system for an adventurous, bird’s eye view of the canopy. Fonda Vela (B,L,D) Day 5, Wed: Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve Step into the misty forests of Monteverde. Troops of howler monkeys lounge in the treetops, and the exceptional bird life includes quetzal, trogons, and iridescent hummingbirds. With an expert guide, you’ll experience the forest fully, spotting and identifying the unusual flora and fauna, and being directed to the best views. The afternoon is at leisure for optional tours and then enjoy a twilight walk at Finca Ecologica for nocturnal activity observations. Fonda Vela (B,L,D) Day 6, Thu: Monteverde / Carara Descend to the central Pacific coast and your stunning hilltop resort. Take a walking tour of Carara National Park, where wide, level trails make it easy to scout for monkeys, iguanas, and squawking flocks of scarlet macaws. This evening, take in a beautiful sunset over the Pacific. Villa Caletas (B,L) Day 7, Fri: Carara / San Jose The morning is yours to relax before driving back to San Jose where the rest of the day is at leisure for shopping and independent activities.
