The Maya built soaring temples and elaborate palaces in Central America and southern Mexico before mysteriously abandoning their cities around 900 AD.Among the structures is the world's most massive pyramid, beating the Egyptians by around a meter.The collapse of the Maya, who dominated the region for some 2000 years as accomplished scientists and urban builders, is one of the great mysteries of archeology.
Tour Itinerary
Group Size: Min 2 - Max 16
Accommodations: Camping, Hotel
Day 1 - Flores to Nacimiento.
 Leave Flores (Guatemala) at 06:00am and transfer in 4x4 to the village of Carmelita(3 hours) from where you will continue by foot to Nacimiento which isa 25 km hike (6hrs) - half way between El Mirador & Carmelito. Lunchalong the way. Set up camp. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2 - Nacimiento Camp to El Carrizal.
Continue trekking to El Carrizal which is a hike of 20 km - approx 4hours. Lunch on the way. Set up camp. Dinner & Overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 3 - El Carrizal to El Mirador
Hike to EL Mirador which is 25 km away - approx 6 hours. Lunch alongthe way. Set up camp. Dinner and overnight in El Mirador Site. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - El Mirador
Spend all day exploring the Mayan Preclassic city of El Mirador. Manyarchaeologists speculate that El Mirador was the first major organizedsettlement of the Maya. The ruins are of such staggering size andproportion that they dominate more popular sites such as Tikal.
They are however totally overgrown and un excavated. Among these buildingsis the immense El Tigre Pyramid that is 18 stories high and whose basecovers the area of three football fields! (B,L,D)
Day 5 - El Mirador to Nacbe
Hike the 10 km across to the site of Nacbe - approx 2 hours. We can then set up the camp and spend the rest of the day enjoying this small site. Lunch, Dinner & Overnight at Nacbe site. (B,L,D)
Day 6 - Nacbe to Wakna
Hike the 20 km across to the site of Wakna - approx 5 Hours. After preparing the camp we can explore the site. Lunch, Dinner & overnight atWakna site. (B,L,D)
Day 7 - Wakna to Flores
We begin the 25 km trek back to Carmelita where we will have lunch and then board the transport back to Flores (B,L)
