4 Days Guatemala at a Glance Tour Package

Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights
Priced From: $1605 pp Dbl. Occ.
Dates: Jan - Dec

Why Go Now: A small gem of a colonial town, Antigua is the perfect place to experience Guatemala. The cobblestone streets hold popular restaurants and bars, bakeries, shops with high quality local crafts inspired by the artisan work of the monks, and beautifully restored architecture. Antigua is especially enticing during Semana Santa, the Holy Week leading up to Easter when the streets are packed with local indigenous groups performing colorful and elaborate re-enactments. Finally, the city is surrounded by an incredible vista of volcanoes that are easily accessible for day hiking or biking.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Antigua, Guatemala
Upon arrival in Guatemala City, Guatemala, you will be met by a representative and transferred to Antigua, approx. 1 hour drive.

Antigua is a truly wonderful colonial city and is among the oldest and most beautiful cities in the Americas. Cobblestone streets, colorful street markets, huge ruined convents, art galleries, museums, boutique hotels and street cafes all contribute to its mysterious and alluring charm.

Built 5,000 feet above sea level in the highlands of Guatemala, it was largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1773, with many of the original buildings still preserved as ruins. Antigua's natural setting is spectacular, with majestic volcanoes surrounding the city on all sides.

Your hotel, the Casa Santo Domingo has creatively integrated all the comforts and amenities within a colonial monastery and all its beautiful grounds. Many treasures from the baroque period are preserved here and the restaurant is located in part of an old convent. Located 10 minutes walking distance from the center of the City. Casa Santo Domingo

Day 2
Biking Antigua Valley or Pacaya Volcano Hike

This morning we will provide an orientation and safety talk before selecting the bikes, distributing helmets, gloves and water bottles and embarking on the first warm-up ride.

Ride into the scenic Antigua Valley, through colorful local Maya villages, coffee plantations and colonial ruins. You will enjoy biking on the slopes of Antigua’s towering volcanoes and through traditional farms and fields. Visit tranquil villages and churches, coffee plantations and come in contact with the local culture and people.

Or:

This morning you will be approx. 1 hour to Pacaya National Park where you will begin your hiking ascent of this famous, active volcano. The hike takes around 2.5 hours and at the top you can see down into the crater to the lava as well as experience the energy of an active volcano. Hike through pine forests up to the more tricky volcanic ash section and finally to the sulfur smoking cone. On occasion, one can even see small eruptions and lava flow depending on the activity of the volcano. When it is clear one can have spectacular views towards the coast even to El Salvador. The afternoon and evening are free to explore Antigua. Casa Santo Domingo

Day 3
Day Trip to Tikal
Early this morning you will be met and transferred to Guatemala City for your flight to Flores. Upon your arrival you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to Tikal National Park. Once the largest Mayan city in the world, Tikal's huge temples rise up through the jungle canopy, filled with sights and sounds of monkeys and colorful tropical birds.

The largest number of Mayan ruins in the world are to be found in Tikal. Extending over six square miles, the ruins include temples, pyramids, terraces, palaces, ceremonial platforms, plazas, steam baths, and other stone structures. It is estimated that only about 30% of the ruins have been excavated.

Lunch will be a special picnic inside the park itself. After lunch, you can then explore the museum or return to the site. After your tour of Tikal you will be transferred to Flores Airport for your scheduled flight to Guatemala City. Upon arrival you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel. Casa Santo Domingo

Day 4

Today you are transferred to the airport for your flight home.
