Travel into the past in the colonial capital, Leon. See the home of beloved native son poet, Ruben Dario; the art museum in a stately colonial manor; and the huge, restored Cathedral. Enjoy lunch and people watching along the central park, then move on to the volcano corridor at San Jacinto. Witness the forces of nature at work in bubbling volcanic hot springs and mud pools. Drive to the summit of Masaya Volcano and peer into its smoldering crater, then to Masaya folkloric town and the country’s best artisan market. Take lunch with a view of Apoya crater lake, then sail among the islands of Lake Nicaragua, the largest in Central America.
