Itinerary
Day 1: USA / Panama City
Begin your holiday with a flight to Panama City, set at the junction of continents and oceans. Transfer to your city hotel, beautifully set on the bay with a tropical ambiance. Intercontinental Miramar
Day 2: Panama City
Your morning city tour takes in historic Casco Antiguo, the 16th century old city, the modern commercial district and the wondrous Panama Canal where we visit the on-site museum at Miraflores Locks and have a breathtaking view of the ships transiting through the 8th wonder of the world. Day 3: Panama City / Bocas del Toro
Transfer to the airport and fly to Bocas del Toro and transfer to your luxury eco-lodge built on stilts over the warm Caribbean waters. Many diverse activities are available for your enjoyment includng rowing in a typical cayuco (canoe) along one mile of lined coral. In the evening, dinner is served by candlelight or on the terrace. Day 4: Bocas del Toro
Today is devoted to exploring the pristine nature of Bocas del Toro archipelago’s Bastimentos Marine National Park. Visit the glassy snorkeling spots of Coral Cay and Zapatillas Caye – all excellent for snorkeling or diving in pristine coral reefs, or simply relax on a tranquil beach. Punta Caracol Acqua (B,L,D)
Day 5: Bocas del Toro / Soberania National Park
Fly back to Panama City and transfer to your marvelous resort in Soberania National Park, a vast protected rainforest surrounding the Panama Canal. Here you are at leisure to enjoy the spa facilities, or explore indigenous cultures at a recreated Embera Indian village, or visit wildlife exhibits staffed by Smithsonian researchers such as a turtle nesting area, butterfly nursery, frog research pond and aquarium. Day 6: Soberania National Park
A day of adventure in the wilderness begins with a ride on the Aerial Tram through the forest canopy for a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area. Later join a naturalist-guide on a Gatun Lake boating adventure to Monkey Island, a living laboratory for monkey research by top scientists from around the world and one of the world’s best wildlife areas. Day 7: Soberania National Park – Panama Canal Transit
No tour here is complete without Panama’s quintessential experience, a Panama Canal transit, on the wish list of many a traveler. Sail through the Miraflores and Pedro Miguel locks to the famous Gailard cut that so challenged the canal diggers, and on to Gamboa where Gatun Lake opens up before us. Please note that once per month, a full ocean-to-ocean canal transit is offered and will be substituted for this partial canal transit! Gamboa Rainforest Resort – river view room (B,L)
Day 8: Soberania / Panama City / Depart to USA
We return to the city and transfer to the airport for your departing flight back to the USA. (B)
