Krka, a river in Dalmatia; springs from the western foot of Dinara Mountain, flowing into the sea near the town of Sibenik.

In parts the the Krka’s course, the river flows through marly soils where certain extensions are created including the Arandelovac.  Through limestone the river forms a deep and narrow canyon that flows over travertine barriers and creates stunning waterfalls.

Along the river’s upper course, one finds two 10-m high waterfalls. The waterfall found at the entrance of the Krka, flowing into the Knin field is called Veliki Buk. The lower part of the Krka’s course is home to more waterfalls by the names of Bilusic, Prijen, Manojlovac falls, Roski Slap, and Skradinski Buk, which happens to be the most beautiful of them all.

Found between Roski Slap and Skradinski Buk is the lovely Visovac Lake, along with its islet.  Downstream from Skradinski Buk is the Krka river estuary where freshwater and saltwater mix.

Part of the estuary also forms Prukljansko Lake. These incredible waterfalls were used in the generation of electric power. The first hydro-electric power plant was constructed in 1898 near Skradinski Buk and the second one created in 1906, right near the Manojlovac waterfall.

The course downstream stretching from Knin to the Sibenik bridge, was been deemed a national park in 1985, receiving many visitors; however from 1991-1995, the Krka National Park was severely damaged due to a burning of the park’s sparse vegetation.
 
The National Park may be reached by taking a boat from Skradin, which travels upstream to Skradinski Buk.

Another means of access to Krk National Park is by car, using the entrance in Lozovac. From Lozovac, buses provided by the National Park bring visitors to Skradinski Buk.

The waterfall Roski Slap may be reached by car either via Miljevci or via Skradin. The cruise from Skradinski Buk to Roski Slap tours Visovac Lake, which is located right between these two incredible waterfalls. This particular tour also provides an opportunity to tour Visovac and the Franciscan monastery found on the islet. Another option is to visit the monastery individually.  For those that opt to do so, it is necessary to take the monastery’s ship found on the Miljevci side of the coast of Visovac Lake, right below the village of Bristane.

Any Park visitors may see the water mills where cereals are ground with millstones and also have the opportunity to taste bread made of these ground cereals. Also found at Krk National Park is an ethnographical collection. There are also several catering establishments.
