The so-called Moravian Gate (Moravska brana), through which the Oder flows northward, helped Moravia develop into a thoroughfare for foreign trade. The "Amber Road," which led through here, linked the Baltic with the Adriatic. The March Valley is particularly fertile, and has made Moravia a wine-growing region.
