Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive Frankfurt / Wiesbaden Tour begins: Frankfurt’s Rhein-Main Airport, one hour after the arrival of our selected flight(s). Welcome to Germany. Meet the traveling companions with whom you will share Romantic Germany at a welcome reception and dinner this evening. Meals: Lunch, dinner Lodging: Hotel Nassauer Hof, Weisbaden, Germany
Day 2 – Cruise Along the River Rhine Your Germany tour begins in the fabled Rhine River Valley. Explore Rüdesheim and enjoy a tasting of the local wines. Cruise down the Rhine to discover the legend of the Lorelei before disembarking at Boppard and returning to Weisbaden. Meals: Breakfast, lunch Lodging: Hotel Nassauer Hof, Weisbaden, Germany
Day 3 – Old-Fashioned Heidelberg to the Black Forest The beautiful city of Heidelberg boasts both Germany’s oldest university and a splendid medieval castle. Day 4 – Take the Cure at Baden-Baden Sometimes referred to as the gateway to the Black Forest, Baden-Baden is best known for its spas and therapeutic waters. Day 5 – Lakeside Magic En Route to Bavaria Traverse the Black Forest High Road, one of the most scenic routes you'll find as you travel Germany. Enjoy lunch on the shores of Lake Constance, the largest lake in Germany, before continuing on through Friedrichshafen en route to Hohenschwangau. Day 6 – Behold a Fairy-tale Castle A visit to Neuschwanstein, King Ludwig’s fanciful, fairy-tale castle, is an essential part of every Germany tour. Day 7 – Historic Treasures of Munich The Residenz, winter palace of early royalty, the old town hall, and the elegant Maximilianstrasse are included on our sightseeing tour today. See many treasures of European art at the Alte Pinakothek, known for its fine collections. Journey to poignant Dachau or explore more of Munich on your own this afternoon. Day 9 – Inspiration of the Ages in Weimar Weimar is the birthplace of modern architecture following the famous Bauhaus movement. Day 10 – Discover the Artistry of Porcelain Meissen is known the world over for its fine porcelain; a visit to the porcelain factory reveals how it is made. Day 11 – Memorable Sights of Dresden During a city sightseeing tour, visit Frauenkirche. One of the major churches of the German Protestant tradition, it was left in ruins by bombs during World War II; reconstruction efforts were completed in 2005. At the old royal stables, see The Procession of the Princes before continuing on to the neo-Renaissance Semperoper (opera house) and the Baroque Zwinger, home to five museums. Day 12 - Milestone of World War II and Intriguing Berlin Truman, Churchill, and Stalin signed the Potsdam Treaty at the Cecilienhof Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue on to Berlin through Germany’s Brandenburg lake district, crossing Glienicke Bridge – famous as the place where spies were exchanged during the Cold War. Day 13 – Where East Once Met West The history of this once-divided city is intriguing on many levels. Experience Berlin on a sightseeing tour including a lot of the city’s most famous landmarks. Although many historic buildings were destroyed during World War II, they have been restored or reconstructed. The Cold War era reveals itself at the Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie.
