Europe's largest garden festival transforms the palace gardens into an open-air ballroom. Other highlights of the Erlangen events calendar are the International Figure and Puppet Theatre Festival and the Erlangen Silent Movie Festival.

Palace Garden Festival
The Palace Garden Festival is one of Europe's largest garden festivals. Every year in June/July the Palace Gardens are transformed into a huge open-air ballroom with several dance floors. The event culminates in a giant firework display.

International Figure and Puppet Theatre Festival
Every two years, Nuremberg and Fürth get together to stage the International Figure and Puppet Theatre Festival. Over the years it has grown into the largest and most important platform for puppet theatre in the German-speaking countries, transcending borders and genres.

Erlangen Silent Movie Festival
Once a year, Erlangen's baroque Margravial Theatre is transformed into a movie palace. The festival programme offers a wide range of classic (and sometimes contemporary) silent film productions, almost all of which are screened to the accompaniment of an ensemble or orchestra. As well as the few remaining original scores, audiences are treated to high-calibre new compositions by contemporary artists.
