Leipzig Nature & greenery
 Leipzig's Auenwald is a unique park and meadow landscape which runs through the city from north to south – ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding. Popular places for days out include the Clara Zetkin park and the Scheibenholz racetrack, the Rosental park with its "window on the zoo“, the botanical gardens and butterfly house, and Leipzig zoo, featuring Pongoland, the world's biggest zoo facility for anthropoids. Belantis, the theme park just outside the city, is also well worth a visit.
Auenwald
The Auenwald is a remarkable meadowland park that cuts a swathe straight through the city from north to south. It can be explored on foot, by bike and, in places, on horseback. The flora and fauna of this wooded area, its lake and numerous watercourses are best appreciated on tours led by expert guides.
Rosental and Clara Zetkin parks
The Rosental and Clara Zetkin parks are extensive, green areas close to the city centre. Perfectly relaxing, they have ponds, a fountain, lawns, play areas and an open-air stage. The Scheibenholz racetrack, opened in 1863, is Leipzig’s oldest sporting venue. During the racing season, it is the place to be.
Botanical Garden and Zoo
Other green spaces in Leipzig include the botanical garden, whose butterfly house has around 200 different species of butterfly, and the zoological garden, just a few minutes from the city centre. The World Tiger Breeding Book is kept by Leipzig Zoo.
