Romaneira - Quinta dos Sonhos, Portugal, Resort Hotel Vacations, Honeymoons and Travel Packages         

Romaneira is a traditional quinta situated in the heart of a vineyard in the Douro Valley, in Portugal. It is our third house of dreams after Dar Ahlam (a stunning Moroccan casbah in the palm grove of Skoura) and El Khiam Ahlam (a luxury encampment in the south Moroccan desert).

The Quinta Dos Sonhos is a 400 hectares property situated in one of the UNESCO’s World Heritage sites. The Douro River runs for several kilometres along the domain.

Romaneira has 13 rooms and 6 apartments with magnificent views over the Douro, and each building spread over the vineyard. Two of the 6 apartments have 2 bedrooms. The rooms and apartments are equipped with heating, air-conditioning and fireplaces. There are no TVs or telephones. We will propose an iPod and its docking station at your arrival.

The Quinta Dona Clara and The Trading Posts (6 rooms and 3 apartments)
The Quinta Dona Clara is a traditional family house. Portuguese inspired, the Quinta groups several living spaces: a music room, a library, a pool room, a tea room and a veranda. Dark wooden floors, paneling, soft tones reminiscent of Porto, old fashioned bathrooms... Dona Clara's decoration reflects the tranquillity of the area without forgetting its Anglo-Saxon influence. In a paved courtyard is our chapel. Facing the river, the terrace with a panoramic view is protected by the shade of the orange trees...

"The Trading Posts", ancient annexes of Dona Clara, are dedicated to the great Portuguese explorers who opened the major Maritimes routes. "The Trading Posts" draw their inspiration from all the discovered worlds during this century: Africa, India, Asia and all the islands crossed during their long and dangerous journeys.

The chocolate factory gathers all the spices from these journeys which can be found in a menu of different hot chocolates. Also, you will taste old fashioned cakes baked according to the old tradition from the Portuguese convents.

In front of the building a vine arbour covers a mineral terrace which overlooks a lemon tree courtyard.

Velha and The Village (7 rooms and 3 apartments)
The Quinta Velha is the most historic building of this property. Dating back to 1854, Velha can be described as our "country house". There are different living spaces: a living room, a dining room and a big winter garden. Dedicated to nature; the decoration in Velha consists of different herbariums, several insect and butterfly collections as well as some rare items from Amazonian: headdresses, ornaments of finery for the body.

The winter garden is an old industrial building which keeps some of its originality under its traditional wooden framework with four slants. The interior courtyard reflects a Brazilian fazenda with its canopy, woven blinds and South American antique furniture. Romaneira's outdoor swimming pool is found under the terraces in front of Velha and overlooking the river. The Village, once an annex building of Velha, brings together the old traditional Portuguese living quarters (the canteen and dining hall).

Built up with additional architecture over the years on the side of a hill, our village has some very appealing allures of "favella". The decoration follows a historic timeline: a traditional kitchen with an oven for baking bread, a dining hall for harvest, a yellow house, two workshops and a garden with fig trees...

Redondo ~ the gastronomic restaurant
Romaneira also owns a gastronomic restaurant within the property, opened to hotel guests as well as outside clientele. The menu is co-signed by Philippe Conticini (la Table d’Anvers, Petrossian / Paris). Opening in June 2008.

Situated high up on the property in a roundhouse - where hence its name, Redondo overlooks the entire valley. With large bay windows which permit an extraordinary view of the landscape even if the temperature does not allow you to sit on the terrace for breakfast or dinner.

To make your dreams come true and to make each moment exceptional, the team is at your disposition to create: a lunch in the vegetable garden, a tapas dinner in the tasting room, a traditional dinner in the "cantina", a dream-like dinner under the orange trees, a gustative stroll on the rivers banks…

The Winecellars

Our old wine cellars bring together an indoor pool, a hammam, a tasting room, a home cinema projection room which can be changed into a meeting room. The indoor pool was designed, under a visible wooden framework, as an authentic basin of 25 metres in length.
