WEDDING REQUIREMENTS
Overseas visitors intending to get married in Fiji are required by law to obtain and sign a marriage license from the nearest registry prior to the ceremony with an average of 36 hours in advance. Special arrangements can also be organised to suit your travel plans. The couple must provide the followingpersonal documents to the registrar for verifi cation purposes at least two weeks before the wedding:
• Original birth certificate • Valid passport • Divorce papers, if applicable • Death certificate if previous spouse is deceased • Written parental consent is required if either party is under 21 years of age
A Certificate of Single Status or certificate of no Legal Impediment must be produced only if:
i. Marriage between a Fiji citizen and a foreign citizen ii. Marriage by former citizens of Fiji iii. Marriage between foreign citizens residing in Fiji
Marriage applicants from Japan must produce the kosekishouhon to certify their personal details.
MARRIAGE FEES
The current marriage fees are shown here below in Fijian currency. Payment should be made in cash or postal money order made payable to the Registrar General. Working hours are from 8.00am to 3.00pm Mondays to Friday and closed on weekends and public holidays.
• Application for F$20.25 special license • Marriage officiated in F$22.50 the Registry (including normal standard Marriage Certificate) • Marriage officiated by F$30.68 the Registrar or District Registrar after official working hours. • Traditional Fijian design F$15.34 Marriage Certificate • Standard Certificate F$ 5.63 (Inclusive of Fiji Government taxes and subject to change. Rates are valid as at 1st July 2008)
