Toberua Island Resort is located on Viti Levu's Outer Islands
Toberua (pronounced Tom-berua) caters to a maximum of 28 guests, and is well suited for singles and couples. Beachfront bures are built in traditional Fijian style, with woven walls and soaring ceilings. Each has a king-size bed and one or more extra beds, a lounge area, stocked refrigerator, coffee and tea making facilities and a beautifully tiled ensuite bathroom with glass doors opening to a private open-air courtyard. Fresh, beautifully prepared cuisine evokes the tastes and flavors of local delicacies, with seafood being a speciality. Take in a round of tropical reef golf at low tide, dangle a fishing line from the jetty while engrossed in a good book, view the coral from a glass-bottomed boat or even play a round or two of croquet. Eco-minded guests will enjoy strolling through the botanical gardens or venturing out to Fiji's unique bird sanctuary, situated on an adjoining island. Swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, and Hobie Cat sailing are complimentary. Scuba diving and deep-sea fishing are available at an additional cost. Make Toberua your own island home during your stay and delight in its warm hospitality and personal service. 14 bures. |
Toberua Island Resort Accommodations
To maintain your privacy, we have built only 14 bures on the island. Extremely comfortable for two people; very comfortable indeed for a small family. Each bure is set right on the water's edge. As you cross the patio and enter your "island home" you will be impressed by the height of the ceiling, soaring 28 feet above you. Paradoxically, in addition to offering you all modern conveniences including electricity, en-suite, refrigerator and round-the-clock hot water, your bure has been constructed in the traditional Fijian "Chiefly" style. This manner of building dates back many centuries and has survived through the passing on of the many craft skills involved from family to family, father to son.
Toberua Island Activities
Toberua Island Diving - The Toberua Passage, within minutes of Toberua Island, offers a wide variety of diving spots from coral heads to 60 foot walls and cracks suitable for both novice and experienced divers. A large array or colourful coral, fish and shells make for excellent underwater photography as our diving is recognized as some of the best in Fiji.
Toberua has its own resident PADI Dive Instructor and we are able to offer a full range of courses from Introductory Resort dives through to Dive Master qualification. We can also arrange for the necessary equipment for currently certified divers. Two or three day diving cruises to explore surrounding reefs and islands are also available.
Snorkling (complementary) Snorkling trips to the Toberua Passage are daily and snorkling from the island is good at any time Masks, flippers and snorkels are all available for no charge from the marina bure on the beach.
Sailing (complimentary) Both Hobie Cat and Windsurfer are available for your free use. On the Hobie Cat one of our experienced boatmen will take you, usually at high tide.
Fishing (complimentary) Tackle and lines are available at the marina and an experienced fisherman will accompany you almost any time you feel like it. We have rods and reels available - simply ask Tui at the marina or see the office to arrange a time. At the moment our current record is a 31kg. Saqa (Trevelli), but the record is being challenged regularly. Overnight charters are available including meals for F$415 per day/night for two people. Additional persons are F$65 per day/night
Paddle Boats (complimentary) You'll find the boats and their paddles on the beach. Just help yourself when you want. If you'd rather just relax and enjoy the ride, journeys by our glass-bottom boat are offered to view the coral reefs and colorful fish.
Toberua Island Dining
Meals are usually eaten outside, especially in the evenings, when they are taken under the stars. You'll hear the beating of the lali (Fijian drum) when the chef is ready to tempt you to our island cooking. Complimentary morning and afternoon tea is also served outside the bar, fresh fruit is available throughout the day from the dining room. Waitresses will bring you the menu wherever you are to take your lunch and dinner orders.
Nothing quite equals candles on snowy linen, stars above and gentle guitars accompanied by the murmur of the ocean to make mealtimes occasions to remember for ever.
We intentionally keep our menus international in flavour but will also offer you a choice of many intrinsically Fijian taste temptations, together with others drawn from Fiji's Indian and Chinese communities. Nature has surrounded us with a bounteous sea and we obtain our fresh sea foods from local fishermen who bring their catches right to the beach (as do many of our guests as well). Crayfish, prawns (in season), lobster and a myriad of unique crustacea provide irresistible attraction at the table - as do constant supplies of luscious tropical fruits.
Our Toberua Serenaders will gently fill your nights with music as you enjoy your meals and it may not surprise you that it is the Fijian custom for ladies to ask gentlemen to dance!
Dining alone in your bure is no problem, just say so and your meals will be brought to you there. If you have young children we prefer they eat an early dinner. To join with friends for dinner parties just ask when your order is being taken.
When you discover the bar, you'll normally find either Sam, Jale or Sakaraia, also known as Zak, in attendance. Your thirst is nonchalantly satisfied by virtually any cocktail you care to name as well as a suitably appetizing variety of beer, wines, aperitifs, spirits and liqueurs - even if you happen to be wading in the pool.
