Marseille sights include the fabulous Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, a gigantic Roman and Byzantine influenced basilica slightly south of the old port. This landmark provides stunning views over the entire city. In addition the Centre de la Vielle Charite is a splendid museum to visit as is the Musee d’Histoire de Marseille. A wonderful experience during a Marseille vacation is to take a ferry to the Chateau d’If, a couple miles west of the old port. This incredible 16^th century chateau was featured in the classic fiction work of Alexandre Dumas, the Count of Monte Cristo.
