You may be surprised to hear that we think Greece requires a little effort. Yes, its magical qualities are evident everywhere, but its true essence is found far beyond the tourist sites and usual stops. Hiking through almond groves on forgotten islands, listening to traditional musicians in seaside villages, and splashing into the sparkling Aegean off dramatic coastlines, one begins to sense it.

The history is important – ancient Kings, Byzantine ruins, tangled vines hiding crumbling parapets. But just as important are the natural treasures and the people – living history, you could say. Aboard the Callisto, we’re able to pause in tiny ports and anchor off undiscovered beaches. In fact, waking to a new, spectacular setting each day is arguably a highlight of the trip. And exploring by bike and on foot, we access island interiors and enjoy breathtaking views – with the option, always, of pausing under an olive tree or stopping to taste the retsina. With millennia-old ruins, there’s really no hurry.
