Zakynthos - The Beaches
Xygkia - A couple of kilometers north of Makrys Gialos, on the way to Volimes, Xygkia beach is a stunning cove of white sand and crystal clear and deep blue waters. There is a small refreshments stand above the beach. It tends to become crowded.
Shipwreck (Navaghio) - This white sand beach at the bottom of 100 m-tall cliffs is Zakynthos', and one of Greece's, image to the world. It can be reached only by boat from Agios Nikolaos Volimon. The trip is about 20 minutes and it costs about €10 roundtrip. Try to get here early in the morning or late in the afternoon, since the crowds from the cruise boats that wash up here all day long may make the place noisy and somewhat unpleasant.
Banana - This is a truly nice beach, a bit isolated, that is mostly favored by the young, hip crowd. In August, Italian is the main language. There are beach bars and a few water sports. Follow the signs just before the turn left to Agios Nikolaos beach on the way from Zakynthos town.
Agios Nikolaos beach - This is a truly nice beach, although it has become very crowded in the last few years. There are umbrellas and sun beds along the whole beach, and 2-3 huge beach bars, with music, that offer drinks and snacks. Sports facilities include beach volley and water sports.
Paxos - The Beaches
Kipiadi - Between Logos and Gaios. Perhaps the beast beach on the island. Be careful not to miss the turn (see Image Gallery), and be prepared for a 200-meter descent on a stone stairway. No amenities here.
Mogonissi - At the southern tip of Paxos island. A lagoon-like beach, with fine sand, and a tavern-cum-beach bar. Usually peaceful and quiet.
Kloni Gouli - About 1 km north of Gaios A small, quiet, pebbly beach just outside of Gaios.
Beaches south of Gaios - South of Gaios and before Mogonissi. Small sandy and shingly coves with crystal clear waters and no amenities.
Kefalonia - The Beaches
Anti Samos (3 Km south of Sami) with white pebbles lapped by a violet sea. Very nice beach with crystal clear waters.
Kalamia is the most northerly of Lassi beaches. It has a narrow stretch of gray sand with a band of fine shingle at the waters edge but set in small nice bay bounded by white cliffs to the south.
Lepeda is an attractive golden sand beach beach located south of Lixouri.
Lourdas is a quiet beach with fine silver sand and a little shingle enclosed by a wide bay.
Myrtos is an excellent beach with white fine sand and shingle nestling into steep cliffs.
Makrys Yialos is a fine long stretch of golden sand. Is one of the most popular Kefalonian beaches.
Platys Yialos is very similar to Makrys Yialos with golden sand but smaller.
