This vacation offers the best of Athens plus a weeklong cruise to Turkey and the Greek Isles. Visit the Acropolis and Athens’ other famous landmarks before boarding your cruise ship to set sail in the Aegean Sea. Settle into the cruising routine of sunbathing and sipping cool drinks. Cruise to Istanbul, Turkey, the fascinating gateway between Asia and Europe. Then cruise to the windmill-dotted island of Mykonos, where you have time to wander through the narrow paved streets lined with trendy boutiques and shady tavernas. Other stops include the Turkish port of Kusadasi; Heraklion on the island of Crete; Santorini, the “Black Pearl of the Aegean” (weather permitting); and the tiny Greek island of Patmos, where St. John the Divine wrote the Revelation. The 11th-century monastery with its valuable manuscript collection is well worth a visit. Also, cruise to the historic island of Rhodes and explore the sights in the historic Old City with its ramparts and palaces built by the Knights of St. John during the Crusades. Rhodes also offers beaches and shopping within easy walking distance of the port. Your trip ends back in Athens, Greece’s capital. Day 1
Board your overnight transatlantic flight.

Day 2 Arrival in Athens, Greece
Time to rest or to start exploring the Hellenic capital. At 6 pm, meet your Athens Host and traveling companions for a welcome drink.

Day 3 Athens–Piraeus (Embarkation)
Morning sightseeing in Athens with a Local Guide features the ACROPOLIS, the Erechtheum with its Porch of Maidens, the beautifully preserved Theseum, Roman Temple of Zeus, Theater of Dionysus, and the Agora where Socrates taught. Vistas of the government buildings, and elegant homes in the modern city provide a striking contrast to the remains of the glorious past. In the afternoon, drive to Piraeus for embarkation. Around 5 pm, sail into the deep blue waters of the Aegean Sea, easily settling into the cruising routine of sunbathing and sipping cool drinks. (B,D)

Days 4 - 9 Cruising
Enjoy your cruise to Istanbul, Mykonos, Patmos, Kusadasi (Turkey), Rhodes, Crete, Santorini weather permitting). Optional excursions are available to Ephesus, Lindos, and Knossos. (B,L,D)

Day 10 Piraeus (Disembarkation)–Athens
After breakfast on board, disembark at Piraeus and return to Athens. The remainder of the day is free to catch up on last-minute shopping. (B)

Day 11
Your homebound flight arrives the same day. (B)
