These deer were originally brought in from India. A recent census puts the population on the Island at about 3,000 animals. These are magnificent animals weighing up to 279 pounds live, and carry six-point antlers measuring up to 36" along the main beam. Although polished antlers can be found year-round, the vast majority of bucks display hard racks from April to November. The rutting period usually occurs May through September. Axis deer venison is excellent eating and meat hunters are welcome to hunt year round. These are hardy animals and we recommend any accurate flat-shooting caliber from 243 and up. The terrain on the island is steep, rocky and bushy. Comfortable boots with ankle protection is recommended along with tough jeans and a light, drab colored, long-sleeve shirt. Some physical conditioning is advised because the hunter will usually encounter hot, humid weather and rough hiking conditions. Success rate for hunters with guide is about 70% for antlered deer, 98% for does and spikes. Rates Hawaii State hunting license: Non-Resident $100 Resident $15 All hunters are required to have a Hawaii Hunter Safety Certificate (for Hawaii residents) or a Certificate of Completion (for Hawaii non-residents). Fee for guided (1 day) hunt - $750 per person. Includes: Services of guide with a 4-wheel drive vehicle Light breakfast and lunch on day of hunt Complete caping, salting of hide or cape and cleaning Loan of equipment - canteens, pack boards, knives and day packs Assistance in packing out meat Assistance in packaging antlers and meat for shipping Refrigerator and freezer space for meat Trip to rifle range for sight-in prior to hunt Transportation to and from airport Rates subject to change without notice. Koloiki Ridge Nature Hike

Enjoy the solitude of Lanai as you begin your hike through the forested hills and valleys of the Koele uplands. The forest canopy, with its filtered sunlight, finally gives way to open vistas and steep ravines once carved by flowing streams. Before you, two valleys drop sheer to both sides of the center ridge as the islands of Molokai and Maui thrust skyward across the northern horizon.

Lanai Pine Archery Range

Lanai's modern archery range is located at the beautiful Lanai Pine Sporting Clays complex, across from the skeet range. Bright red, yellow and blue targets are setup on a 12-station range with straw bales. Novice, intermediate and advanced levels are served with 15-yard and 35-yard ranges.

Recurve, compound and youth bows are available for rent in the pro shop, which will also offer logo wear. Private and group lessons are offered by certified archery instructors.

Located on the north side of the island on the plains of Mahana, the range offers spectacular views of Molokai and Maui across the Auau Channel, and a dramatic landscape of deep gulches and ravines, vast expanses of pampas grass, groves of Australian pine and lantana brush.

Complimentary transportation is offered from the Lodge at Koele ^®.

A cancellation fee of 50% of the event fee will be charged for any reduction over 20% of the original block of reserved spaces as well as any cancellations within five days of the scheduled event. Any cancellations or no-shows on the day of the reservations will result in the assessment of the entire event fee per person.

Lanai Pine Sporting Clays

Set in the island's dramatic upland region, our sporting clays course provides the opportunity to enjoy a refined sport amid some of the most spectacular natural surroundings in Hawaii. Lanai Pine Sporting Clays is designed to entice beginners and challenge experts. Our 14-station solar powered course is the safest and most well designed in the Pacific.

Starting Out

The excitement of breaking sporting clays is contagious, and can be enjoyed by everyone. Our National Sporting Clay Association trained instructors provide first-timers with safety tips and give pointers on the sport of clay shooting. Regardless of your age, size, or skill level, you will begin to hit targets in no time.

Our pro shop and clubhouse offer all the necessary equipment. Guns are fitted for both weight and size to minimize recoil, assuring each shooter a safe and comfortable experience.

Another Shot

If you've shot sporting clays before, then you understand the excitement. While providing further instruction, our instructors challenge shooters by introducing them to new and different sporting clays games, such as skeet, wobble trap, and compact sporting. Clays are launched to simulate rabbit running patterns as well as quail, duck, dove and pheasant flight patterns.

The Next Level

For the experienced shooter, the Lanai Pine Sporting Clays offers a world-class challenge. Managed by Dennis Rapp, a nationally recognized NSCA Level III instructor, our course is equipped with 14 automated target launchers, 6 fully-automated competition high towers and "single shooter" delay circuitry for individual play.

Events

Lanai Pine Sporting Clays hosts several events throughout the year, including our Annual Hawaii Pacific Open Ducks Unlimited Shoot and a variety of shooting school opportunities.

Group Activities & Lessons

There are an array of group programs tailored for both beginners and seasoned shooters alike. We also offer children's programs, fun shoots, corporate and group activities and private lessons.

Mountain Biking

Enjoy Lanai's scenic pathways and the quaint town at your own pace. For all bike rental, a refillable plastic bike water bottle is provided.

Private tours are also available.

The Stables at Koele

Equestrians will find Lanai provides a thrilling setting for active and leisurely trail riding. Our Koele, Paniolo and Mahana Trail Rides are walking rides and are Western tack only. The Private Trail Ride (English, as well as Western tack) allows the more experienced rider to go at a faster pace if desired. Group rides can be customized to your requirements upon advance notification. Shuttle service is provided between the hotels and the stables for a fee.

Specific rides are not available on a daily basis, but may be booked 30 days in advance.
