Oahu, the Gathering Place, has a land mass of 608 square miles and is the third largest of the Hawaiian Islands. It has a population of about 875,000. The island rises from sea level to the highest point at 4,020 feet on Mt. Kaala in the Waianae Range. Oahu has a 112-mile coastline of beautiful sandy beaches, sheer rocky cliffs and rugged lava fields. The City and County of Honolulu is comprised of the Island of Oahu and the county seat is in Honolulu. It is also the capital city of the State of Hawai`i. Based on comparison of its structural lava flows, the island is 2.2 to 3.4 million years old.
