Cocoa Island Resort, Maldives Vacation and Cocoa Island Resort Luxury Travel Package
The latest creation from Como Hotels & Resorts, Cocoa Island is destined to become a fashionable choice amongst the cognoscenti as its sister hotel, Parrot Cay. It opened its doors in January 2003 and is the centrepiece of a pocket-sized island that takes just under ten-minutes to walk around.
To the north lies the Vadhoo Channel, widely regarded as one of the best dive sites in the Maldives, whilst on the other side is a tranquil reef tailor-made for those more turned-on by a little gentle snorkelling.
Cocoa Island Resort: Accommodation
Indeed, Cocoa Island is all about living life close to the water, even the architecture a creative reflection of the island's setting and culture. Guests stay in contemporary timber water villas called 'dhonis', each one modelled after the local fishing craft and featuring private verandahs with steps leading down into the gin-clear waters of the Maldivian Sea. Stylish, yet simple, they have drawn their inspiration from colonial themes, yet are equipped with all the modern comforts, including air-conditioning, mini-bars, TVs, DVD and CD-players. Little touches include umbrellas, resort bags, slippers and luxury Shambhala amenities.
The choice primarily lies between standard suites, with their step-down living areas leading out onto furnished sundecks, the more spacious loft suites with their staircases leading up to the bedroom, and six one and two-bedroom villas for those needing even more space. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows succeed in bringing the Indian Ocean right inside the room.
Cocoa Island Resort: Facilities
And if you want a change from all the water-based activities that include diving, sailing, fishing and canoeing, you can head straight for the loungers around the 'infinity' swimming pool or the massage pavilions of the Shambhala Spa. The yoga classes, meditation area, steam room and hydrotherapy pool all aid the realignment of weary bodies.
Of course, on Cocoa Island you can really live like a castaway and depend upon room service or you can step ashore and dine beneath the alang-alang roof of the main restaurant. Here the Australian chef, Stana Johnson, prepares Indian and Sri Lankan specialities with the emphasis upon local produce and freshly-caught seafood.
