Dutch Ruins

Ile aux Aigrettes
Mauritius Wildlife Fund, the island of Ile aux Aigrettes has become internationally recognized for the protection of the environment. The island is host to some of the world's rarest birds, including the kestrel. You can also view the extremely rare Pink Pigeon, the Green Gecko Phelsuma and the Aldabra giant turtle.
Mahebourg
Mahébourg is the main fishing village on the island. Built on Grand Port Bay it was established in 1804 by the French G Martello Towers. The Martello Towers was the scene of the ancient rivalry between old colonial powers and the ingenuity of mankind. The Martello Towers represent a milestone in the island's history; they mark the end of slavery.
Domaine du Chasseur
Sitting in the Anse Jonchée hills, the Domaine des Grand Bois has outstanding hunting grounds covering approximately 900 hectares. Stags, monkeys and boars live in the velvet vegetation of the hillside. The Domaine hosts four thatched-roof bungalows and a restaurant with a scenic ocean view. Enjoy a delicious meal of venison and seafood while there.
Souillac
A small oceanside resort along the rugged coast of the Savanne. A notorious feature is the garden overlooking the ocean and named after Dr. Charles Telfair. A well known scenic point is located at the south end of the village, right on the cliff top : Gris Gris.
