You can get married on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue
Several tour operators offer wedding packages
Couples holding full passports may marry in the Seychelles. The civil ceremony, recognised under British Law, can take place on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, and is conducted by the Civil Status Officer.
There are two ways to arrange a wedding: The first and best is to book through one of the many tour operators now offering a wedding option in addition to the normal holiday package. A supplement is payable, and not all operators' arrangements are identical. Check the individual operator's brochure for exact details and cost.
Alternatively, a couple may make arrangements directly with the Senior Officer of the Civil Status Office, PO Box 430, Victoria, Mahé, Seychelles, Tel: (00248) 224030, Fax: (00248) 225474, Monday-Friday between 0800 to 1200 and 1300 to 1600. Please allow AT LEAST TWO MONTHS to process the documentation and make the necessary arrangements.
Anyone who wants to get married must be 18 years old or over. Ladies under 18 need the consent of the father (if the parents are married) and that of the mother if parents are not married.
Advise the date of the holiday, the name of the hotel where the ceremony is to take place, and a preferred date (give alternative dates). The hotel must also confirm that the chosen date is acceptable and advise a suitable time of day.
Send photocopies of birth certificates, if applicable divorce papers (decree absolute) and if widowed previous marriage certificate and death certificate, legal proof if your name has been changed by Deed Poll and copies of all relevant pages of each party's valid passport.
All foreign documents (copies and originals) must be accompanied with English translations. All foreign documents must be sent to the appropriate Embassy and officially translated onto the Embassy's headed paper.
Please travel with all original documents for your wedding.
A couple must normally be in Seychelles for 11 days before the wedding, and no fee is payable in this case. In any other case, a special licence fee of SR.100 is payable.
The Senior Officer of the Civil Status will confirm dates to perform the wedding, fee details and advise whether any further documentation is required. If the Ceremony is to take place at the Civil Status Office, the time and date can be pre-booked. However, the couple must report there on arrival, with their original documents, to make final arrangements.
Religious ceremonies can be arranged but NOT through the Civil Status Office. The law does not recognise religious ceremonies. Normally, a couple can have a civil ceremony followed by a religious ceremony. Couples should ask their parish priest to contact a priest in Seychelles directly, and all other formalities detailed must be complied with. Contact the Seychelles Tourist Office for details of churches on 0171 224 1670.
The Tourist Office recommends that ALL DETAILS be clearly confirmed in writing well in advance of departure, to avoid any disappointment or misunderstanding. When booking through a tour operator, couples should clarify exactly what is covered by the supplement payable, and what is optional (e.g. photography, cake, music, video etc.) and normally payable at resort.
If travelling on Air Seychelles, wedding dresses will be hung in the cabin if placed in a special suit carrier and handed to the stewardess at the time of boarding the plane.
