If this is totally unfamiliar to you it is the name given to ancient medicinal therapy, with Nature providing the 'drugs'. "Swedha Karma" - It literally means stimulating the body - comprises massaging the entire body with medicinal oils made from herbs, spices and selected oils; the same course using Ayurveda preparations from plants and herbs; massaging the entire body while immersed in an oil bath. It has been scientifically established that while these treatments induces perspiring, stimulating and toning muscles and nerves, it also mitigates the accumulation of cholesterol, making it ideal as treatment for cardiac discrepancies.

Mahaweli Reach Dalada Maligawa  The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is the "lodestar of the Buddhists", dating back to the 16th century AD. One of the most specticular section of this temple. The Esala Perahera or Procession of the month of Esala in July/August each year. A golden canopy was constructed recently over the relic Chamber.
Mahaweli Reach The Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya 6 kilometers from Kandy on the Colombo/Kandy road were once the Pleasure Gardens of a Kandyan Queen. The Gardens--- 150 acres, motorable, with seats, gazebos, pavilions and a restaurant at the entrance, are a paradise of tropical foliage. Highlights are the Great Palm Avenue, the Orchid House, the Pergola, the Octagon House, the flower-beds of hibiscus, cannas, bougainvillaeas and croton.
Rajamaha temple of rangiri dambulla - the golden rock temple The name Dambulla derives from Damba-rock and Ulla-fountain. One sees the incessant drip of water from the fountain within the main image house. It is considered an art gallery of unique beauty.

These 80 or more caves tell of the inhabitants dating back to the 3rd Centuary BC. Five main caves hold the holy Buddhist shrines. Dambulla is one of the six historic sites declared a world heritage under the UNESCO.
Mahaweli Reach Sigiriya Also a world heritage site. It held the Palace of King Kassapa completed with moats, walls, terraces and water gardens. Most spectacular is the Mirror Wall. Today only a protected pocket remains where murals and graffiti remain, unique in history. The comely damsels portrayed in the Sigiriya Frescoes manifest an almost vivifying vibrancy.
Mahaweli Reach Degaldoruwa A temple in the ancient style. 9.6 kilometers from Kandy. The frescoes, depicting the Buddhist Jataka Tales, represented as scenes from everyday life in contemporary Kandy, are some of the finest examples of their kind.
The Lankathilaka Rajamaha Temple Is situated at Handessa- a cruciform building and serving as an image house of The Buddha. The temple is full of exquisite painted scenes of the lives of 24 former Buddhas and there is a colossal seated image of the Buddha. It commands an unfolding village scenery of charm and beauty
Mahaweli Reach Embekke Devale Is at Welamboda - a superb example of architecture in wood and established by King Vikramabahu in 1371 AD. The wood art of this temple is astounding - dancers, swans, creepers, soldiers on horseback, floral emblems, double headed eagles, wrestlers, etc. special treasures are the doorways of carved sandalwood and the palanquin used by King Rajasingha II.
Mahaweli Reach Udawatte Kele Royal Sancturary Kandy, with its historical, archeological and religious value, has protected Udawatta Kele Sanctuary even during the time when Kandy was the capitol of Sri Lanka. Situated to the north of Sri Dalada Temple, this forest is about 257 acres in area and has a large number of birds, animals and butterflies, belonging to various species.
