Day 1: Arrive Colombo
Sri Lanka is a tantalizing island getaway destination with an abundance of natural beauty. Transfer to your hotel in the center of town, where you begin your exploration of this colorful, noisy, busy seaport. Old Dutch Churches, attesting to its colonial past, mix with Hindu and Buddhist temples. To the north of the center is Fort district, the country's business center. South is Galle Face Green, a prominent port in the 14th century. Its busy seafront boasts world-class cricket fields, where international matches are played. Cinnamon Gardens, further south, is the most fashionable neighborhood, with mansions and tree-lined streets. Columbo Plaza
Day 2: Columbo / Negombo Fishing Village / Columbo
After breakfast, tour Negombo, a fishing village north of Colombo. Its Dutch-built canal is busy with fishermen navigating the channel in gaily-painted boats. Homes and churches line the shore, where brilliantly colored kingfishers and parrots squawk in the trees. Boat trips can be organized, and, from November to April, diving facilities are available.
