In the "piazza Federico II di Svevia" there's the Norman (Swabian) Castle - the major fortified position formerly used in defense of the city.
On the right side of the piazza looms the church of St. James. The facade is sobre-looking and is made up of smooth ashlars in white stone. 
From the Piazzetta Odegitria we go left down Strada del Carmine . It takes its name from a church and convent, both of which were built around 1640. 
Back on the Strade del Carmine we proceed along the Via delle Crociate to get to the all' St. Nicholas' Arch . A smart-looking barrel-vault arch from Angevin times framed and decorated in bas-relief with the effigy of St. Nicholas set amongst coats-of-arms adorned with Angevin fleurs-de-lis. 
Continuing down the road that winds to the right (after the Angevin barrel-vault arch) we eventually come face-to-face with the facade of the Church of St. Gregory.
