Luna Hotel Baglioni
Welcome

Modern life frenzy leaves us with very few moments to devote exclusively to ourselves; let us make the most of them! As the manager of the Luna Hotel Baglioni in Venice, I always try to express the best of our welcoming in order to secure our Guests a pleasant stay and a unique experience worth remembering. What makes us special? Our warm welcoming, the unconditional attention we devote to our Guests, privacy, professionalism and the commitment of our staff. Our aim is to make our Guests’ dreams of a magic stay in charming Venice come true, i.e. to offer a luxurious service within the frame of a fascinating location.  The Luna Hotel Baglioni is Venice’s oldest hotel and is located right behind St. Marc’s Square. In the days of the Templars, the hotel was known as the Locanda della Luna (“The Moonlight Tavern”) and would offer travellers a comfortable shelter. Now, more than eight centuries after, it is still committed to the same cause: the Luna Hotel Baglioni carries on a tradition made of class, comfort and refined elegance.

Luna Hotel Baglioni Dining

Antica Carbonera
The main dining room of “La Carbonera” is one of a kind. The tables and booths are from the yacht once belonging to the Archduke Rodolf Habsburg, son of emperor Franz Josef, and each pillar has been made from the mast of the same yacht. It’s not only a place that serves extremely fresh fish dishes but it is a part of Venice’s history. It was a meeting place for merchants, very close to the Grand Canal and it also became a landmark at that time for secret meetings amongst the Carbonari movement. It still is a warm and welcoming restaurant ideal for enjoying the magic of Venice.

Strada del vino Valpolicella
These Strade (wine roads) were initially linked to an ever developing increase in wine industry tourism also known as “oenoturism”: wine enthusiasts who want to find out what’s behind wine and its production: landscape, people, culture, history. In Valpolicella wine producers have set up Strada del Vino (wine road); in the past there have been similar initiatives with this name, yet today the Strada del Vino represents a completely new iniative in which all operators want to work together to increase the value of the whole of the territory. It is not just a road unwinding alongside cellars, but a tool showing all economic, social and cultural entities involved. The Strada stretches along the hills north of Verona. The region is split into three areas: Valpolicella Classica, northwest of the city which goes through the market towns of S. Ambrogio di Valpolicella, S. Pietro Incariano, Fumane, Marano, and Negrar – Valpolicella – Valpantena and to the east the so called Valpolicella which covers the Mezzane and Illasi Valleys. As well as sampling typical local products, you can also visit cellars where you can buy great wine which is even sold by the glass.

Strada del vino dei Colli Euganei
These pyramid-shaped mountains have always been used by local wine growers, ever since the Palaeolithic tribes of the Adige Valley started this cultivation between the 10th and the 5th century B.C. The landscape is beautfully shaped by vineyards, villages and medieval castles, Reneissance villas and noble country houses, churches, monasteries and hermitages which are still inhabited by Benedictines and Camaldolites. A box of treasures inside the Regional Natural Park, whose main features are the lush and varied nature and lots of different fruit trees: cherries, strawberries, blackberries, pomegranates, figs, delicate wild herbs, fine honey and olive oil whose extraction techniques date back to 14th century. Along the Euganean Hills’ Strada del Vino (Wine Road), you’ll see the favourite haunts of illustrious artists like Petrarca, Goethe, Foscolo, Byron and Shelley; you’ll come across the Euganean Thermae, the most renowned spa centre in Europe, a place of wellbeing which is famous for mud-bath treatments. Besides, there are also over 43 cellars offering guided tours in the vineyards as well as wine and olive oil sampling sessions together with local products. Wine-bars, specialized shops, an oil mill, a distillery, a museum of agriculture and plenty of local wine among other delights.

A gorgeous Venice
In the middle of the lagoon, in a calle (street) beginning from Campo San Tomà, there is a “very sweet” shop. It has nothing to do with masks, glass or gondolas though: here craftsmanship deals with uses chocolate, the most delicious stuff. The shop is called VizioVirtù and is one of the best chocolate shops in Venice. It is not just a patisserie, but a workroom where “good chocolate” reigns everywhere: the “food of gods” is entirely handcrafted using prime and genuine raw materials. VizioVirtù is not only about tradition; modern concepts and exclusive recipes are brought in as well. Chocolate preparation blends in with the Serenissima tradition, where chocolate has always been part of the creative scene. The menu will satisfy all palates: over a hundred varieties of pralines, both traditional and new –  amazing flavours, Barolo chinato wine, Pantelleria raisin wine, balsamic vinegar, tobacco, just to mention a few –, chocolate bars, dragees, chocolate fondue, spreads (made of Piedmont hazelnut chocolate, IGP certificate) and hot chocolate to sip. Each variety can be enhanced by Eastern herbs providing cacao with a slightly different taste. VizioVirtù is not just amazing for your palate, but also for your eyes: as you enter the shop, your eyes will be attracted by the open workroom. You can see “live” how chocolate turns into mouth-watering work of art!

A coffee at the Museum Café
Managed by the renowned Venetian restaurant ‘Ai Gondolieri’ and with whom it shares its staff, the Museum Café offers a wide range of dishes and snacks when visiting the Peggy Guggenheim collection.
Situated in the seventeeth century Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, also renowned for its collection of works of art on the Grand Canal, the Museum is a light and relaxing restaurant with thirty tables divided between two dining rooms and a terrrace overlooking the garden of Nasher sculptures where art flows from the museum to the terrace through the restaurant.
The menu does not follow the trend but is a winning formula. Instead of the typical fish dishes which one comes to expect in Venice, the restaurant offers a range of dishes inspired by the best and earliest seasonal ingredients, veal and goose served with baby artichokes. The portions are sophisticated but light where the aim is to find comparison between chef and artist, and kitchen and artist’s studio.
The restaurant is open to visitors during the day and at night guests from the Fondazione are invited. The Museum Café has seen many famous people pass through its doors and perhaps two people in particular should not be forgotten François Mitterand and Lady Diana as well as politicians and stars from the world of show business.

Il Muro is back again
Il Muro is an up-and-coming area at the foot of the Ponte Rialto. The market covers the whole of the calle (typical Venetian street) throughout the entire afternoon, while later on newly-opened bars allows you to have a nice aperitif setting you up for a brilliant soiree. Among these bars you will find Il Muro – Vino e Cucina, a point of reference in Venice’s nightlife, halfway between old and modern. Although it is to be found in Campo Bella Vienna in the midst of a famous working class sestriere (typical Venetian neighbourhood), the bar’s interiors boast cutting-edge contemporary furniture design. Great for a Spritz drink or a glass of wine before supper, Il Muro takes you by surprise when it comes to food: here traditional Venice gastronomy blends in with Chef Josef Klostermaier’s own art of cooking as well as seasonal ingredients. It goes without saying that its specialities are fish dishes: from marinated carpaccio of bass to cauliflower, turnip and fresh tuna soup and dressed pike. However, it is not just about fish, you are also served refined cuisine in an informal environment where second courses are barbecued meat (Italian, American or Argentinian), followed by home-made desserts and accompanied by a great list of sophisticated wines. Furthermore, in the low seasons, Il Muro organizes the Sabato in Campo event, making the most of charming Campo Bella Vienna in order to serve excellent and different delicacies each week as well as wine and prosecco. Surely, the best way to enjoy a weekend in the Venetian lagoon.
