A Week In Italy, Luxury Italy Vacations, Tours and Travel Packages

Explore the storied history and cultural treasures of Pompeii, the Vatican, and the Roman Empire. Balance architectural landmarks with the natural beauty of the Isle of Capri’s rugged coastline, and the seaside villages and cliffs found along the Amalfi Coast. See the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, Michelangelo’s frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, the treasures of Pompeii in an archeological museum, and a 13th-century castle in Naples. Tour the city of Pompeii, preserved under volcanic ash for nearly 1,600 years. Travel by jet boat and high-speed train, and catch the views from glorious private villas during A Week In… Capri, Amalfi Coast & Rome journey. A two-night stay on the enchanting Isle of Capri is a highlight.

Itinerary

Day 1: Buon Giorno Italia
Tour begins at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino one hour after the arrival of Our selected flights. Travel south through the Campania countryside to Naples and board a ferry to the Isle of Capri. Enjoy the company of your fellow travelers at this evening’s welcome reception and dinner.
Meals: Lunch, dinner
Lodging: Grand Hotel Quisisana, Isle of Capri, Italy

Day 2: Ah, the Captivating Isle of Capri
An Isle of Capri tour via a chauffer-driven convertible explores the island’s history and natural beauty. Visit Villa San Michele, built in the late 19th century atop Roman palace ruins, in the town of Anacapri. Attend a lecture on contemporary Italian society at a private villa overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, followed by free time to enjoy the charms of the Isle of Capri as you please.
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Lodging: Grand Hotel Quisisana, Isle of Capri, Italy

Day 3: Goodbye Isle of Capri… Hello Amazing Amalfi Coast
Bid farewell to the Isle of Capri as you begin your exploration of Italy’s fabled Amalfi Coast. Take in the glorious views of towering cliffs crowned with brightly colored houses perched high above the azure seas. A stop in historic Amalfi precedes a visit to the splendid Villa Rufolo in Ravello. Then, it’s off to your hotel in the village of Positano for a two-night stay.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Lodging: Le Agavi Hotel a Positano, Italy

Day 4: Pondering Poignant Pompeii
Destroyed by the massive eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79, Pompeii lay hidden for 1,600 years before it was accidentally rediscovered in 1748. An in-depth guided visit to the extensive excavations reveals much about the doomed city and the daily lives of those who lived there so long ago. At Villa dei Misteri, housing one of the world’s oldest paintings, it almost seems as if the owners have just stepped out. During the city’s heyday, the Teatro Grande could seat 5,000 entertainment seekers.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch
Lodging: Le Agavi Hotel a Positano, Italy

Day 5: Neopolitan Delights
Depart the Amalfi Coast and journey on to the city of Naples. A sightseeing tour shows you Teatro San Carlo, Italy’s oldest opera house, and Castel Nuovo; view landmark sights such as Posillipo, Piazza del Plebiscito, and the district of Santa Lucia. A guided visit at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale showcases treasured artifacts of Pompeii and Herculaneum. This afternoon, travel first class on the high-speed Eurostar train to Rome for a three-night stay.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch
Lodging: Grand Hotel Parco dei Principi, Rome, Italy

Day 6: When in Rome…
See Circus Maximus, the 4th-century BC stadium where chariot races were held, and view the ancient ruins – temples, monuments, and Senate House – of the Roman Forum from above. Behold Trajan’s Forum and the Imperial Palaces, and visit San Pietro in Vincoli. Tour the Colosseum, opened in AD 80 for gladiator battles. Stay flexible, though – sightseeing in Rome on days 6 and 7 may be in a slightly different order than described here due to local holidays, etc.
Meals: Breakfast
Lodging: Grand Hotel Parco dei Principi, Rome, Italy

Day 7: Inside Vatican City, the world’s smallest country
Explore the rich treasures of Vatican City, starting at the Vatican Museums. Take a guided tour of the Candelabra Gallery, the Map Gallery, and the Gallery of the Tapestries. You’ll absolutely drink in the splendor of Michelangelo’s famous frescoes in the Sistine Chapel and view the art and architecture of majestic St. Peter’s Basilica. Tonight’s farewell reception and dinner is at a restaurant along the Appian Way, the famed Roman Road that today hosts restaurants and nightlife.
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Lodging: Grand Hotel Parco dei Principi, Rome, Italy

Day 8: Ciao Rome
Tour ends at Rome Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino 2 1/2 hours before the departure of Our selected flights. If you are departing at other times, you must secure your own transportation to the airport.
Meals: Breakfast
