Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Buon Giorno Italia – Welcome to Rome! Tour begins: 6:00 PM at Hotel Majestic, Rome. A transfer is included from Rome's Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino to the landmark Hotel Majestic. Day 2: Ruins of Pompeii & the pleasures of Positano Depart Rome to visit the excavated ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii, which was buried under ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79. Tour highlights include Teatro Grande, capable of seating 5,000 people, and Villa dei Misteri, featuring one of the ancient world’s largest paintings. Continue your journey through the Campania countryside to the gorgeous Amalfi Coast for a two-night stay at Le Agavi Hotel a Positano, nestled on steep cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean -- suspended in luxury between the sky and the sea. Day 3: Amalfi Coast drive and an excursion to Ravello Drive along the Amalfi Coast, one of Europe’s most dramatic shorelines. See the brightly colored houses set on towering cliffs above the sea, and the houses in the town of Amalfi built between the 10th and 13th centuries; visit the Cathedral of St. Andrew. Then it's on to Ravello to visit Villa Rufolo, the former residence of several popes, offering perhaps the best view on the coast. Lunch today is at a local restaurant where you'll get a real taste of Italy – and perhaps have your cheeks pinched by the owner! Day 4: Ride a jet boat from Sorrento to the Isle of Capri Leave the Amalfi Coast and discover the pleasures of lovely Sorrento. There, board a jet boat that will whisk you to the Isle of Capri, affording wonderful views of its jagged coastline, studded with grottoes. Upon arrival, you'll be picked up by convertible taxi -- your transportation for the next two days -- and taken to the Grand Hotel Quisisana; it is one of the most celebrated hotels in Europe, set on the exclusive "Via Camerelle" in the heart of Capri, a few steps from the Piazzetta. Day 5: Isle of Capri in a convertible car You will really feel like a jetsetter today when you explore the history and natural attractions of the Isle of Capri in a convertible car. Visit the town of Anacapri, then beautiful Villa San Michele, built in the late 19th century atop Roman palace ruins. Get a noted professor's perspectives on contemporary Italian society during a lecture at a private villa overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Then spend the rest of the day as you please on Capri -- enjoying the pleasures of a less-crowded island after the day-trippers have departed. Day 6: Archaeological Museum and much more in Naples Head back to the Amalfi Coast and the influential city of Naples. A sightseeing tour shows you landmark sights such as Posillipo, the district of Santa Lucia, Piazza del Plebiscito, Castel Nuovo, and Teatro San Carlo, Italy’s oldest opera house. A guided visit to the Museo Archeologico Nazionale showcases the treasured artifacts of Pompeii and Herculaneum. This afternoon, say goodbye to the beautiful Amalfi Coast and travel first class on the high-speed TAV train to return to Rome. Day 7: Rome and a private, after-hours visit to the Vatican Museums Begin your day with a guided excursion through Imperial Rome, including a visit to the legendary Colosseum, opened in AD 80 for gladiator battles. Spend the afternoon exploring on your own before enjoying this evening's Exclusive – discovering the rich treasures of Vatican City on a private, after-hours visit to the Vatican Museums!* You'll be amazed at how much you see without the crowds! Take a guided tour of the Candelabra Gallery, the Map Gallery, and the Tapestries.
