Tour Itinerary
Days 1-4: Florence
Arrive in enchanting Florence and transfer to the historic Grand Hotel located along the Arno River. Visit the Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore), the famous landmark of Florence, and the Galleria dell'Accademia to see Michelangelo's David. See San Lorenzo Church and chapels, once the parish church of the Medici family; most of the family is buried here. View some of the world's most important art treasures at the Uffizi Gallery and the final resting places of famous Florentines (including Michelangelo and Galileo) at the Church of Santa Croce. On one Day, travel to Pisa, with its famous Leaning Tower, and to the beautiful walled city of Lucca with its lovely 11th-century cathedral.
Days 5-7: Siena
Drive to medieval San Gimignano, known for its surviving towers. Continue to Siena for a stay at the Grand Hotel Continental, located in the pedestrian shopping area near the Duomo. This scenic Tuscan town was built on three hills and is enclosed by a set of walls and gates. Wander through the Piazza del Campo, one of the finest main squares in Italy, and see the Palazzo Pubblico. In Siena's Gothic Duomo, view brilliant frescoes by Pinturicchio, then travel to the famous Chianti wine region to sample local vintages.
Days 8-10: Perugia
Explore some of Umbria's hill towns, including Pienza, a small Renaissance town that was the birthplace of Pope Pius II. In Montepulciano, see architecture that is a blend of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Spend three nights at the gracious Brufani Palace in Perugia and visit the Collegio del Cambio (Exchange Guild), where elaborate frescoes decorate the meeting room and chapel of the guild of bankers and moneychangers. Visit the imposing Palazzo dei Priori's National Gallery of Umbria, then explore the Basilica St. Francis in Assisi, the ceramic-producing town of Deruta and the charming town of Todi.
Day 11: Rome
Travel via picturesque Orvieto to glorious Rome for a night at the magnificent Hotel de Russie, near the Spanish Steps and fashionable Via Condotti.
Day 12: Rome
Transfer to the Rome airport for your departure flight.
