Itinerary
Day 1 Valencia, Spain Passengers embark Hebridean Spirit in Valencia.
Day 2 Valencia, Spain In the morning, we take a drive around Valencia to see some of the best examples of the city’s architecture, both historic and modern. Guests will view the famous Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas, a lavish palace with an extravagantly sculpted Baroque façade, and the America’s Cup Pavilion. Designed by the British architect David Chipperfield for the Cup’s premier yachting tournaments, this striking white concrete edifice has won widespread acclaim. There is the opportunity to take lunch ashore and spend the afternoon strolling around town.
Day 3 Ibiza, Balearic Islands, Spain We start our tour of Ibiza in the south of the island, at the birdlife-rich saltpans of Ses Salines, and follow the rugged west coast northwards. Driving past terraces of orange trees and olive groves, we reach the tiny hilltop village of Es Cubells, which has wonderful views across to the neighbouring isle of Formentera. Next is Cala d’Hort, a small beach with the best views of Illa Es Vedra rock, before we continue north to San Juan. Guests can lunch ashore and spend the afternoon in the old walled town of D’Alt Vila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 4 Cartagena, Spain We arrive at this strategic seaport on the Costa Calida. Cartagena was founded circa 255BC by the Carthaginians, and has been one of the most important ports in Spain since the 16th-century. Guests will visit the Archaeological Museum to gain an insight into the city’s past. After lunch on board, there is free time to explore Cartagena and its hilltop Concepcion Castle — a fortress built with materials from the Roman era — or take a swim from a nearby beach.
Day 5 Puerto Banús, Spain After a morning at sea, we arrive in Puerto Banús. This famous marina and resort town was built by José Banús in 1970, at a time when neighbouring Marbella was enjoying its jet-set heyday, and its opening was attended by the Aga Khan, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco. From here, we visit historic Ronda to take afternoon tea and explore at leisure, taking in mountain views from the imposing Puente Nuevo Bridge which spans the 100m-deep gorge of El Tajo.
Day 6 At sea.
Day 8 Funchal, Madeira Guests disembark Hebridean Spirit in Funchal.
