Day 1,Arrive Iquitos / Embark on Amazon Cruise
Begin an extraordinary adventure along the Amazon and its main tributaries, the Ucayali and Maranon Rivers far from Peru’s Amazon civilization. This small-ship adventure cruise gives you access to areas that cannot be reached by land. The comfortable vessel features air-conditioned cabins with private bathroom, a spacious dining room, observation deck, and full bar. Upon arrival in Iquitos, we are transferred to our classic ship built in the style of a 19th century riverboat. Set sail aboard any of these sister vessels - La Esmeralda, La Turmalina, La Turquesa, La Amatista and La Aquamarina (herein referred to as Amazon Cruiser). Day 2,Amazon River / Ucavali River
On the first morning, arrive at the confluence of the Ucayali and Maranon Rivers, and the point where the Amazon River takes its name, 2,400 miles from the Atlantic. Amazon Cruiser (B,L,D)
Day 3,Ucavali River / Puinahua River
Board a motor launch to explore black water tributaries leading into Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. Primates and sloths are frequently seen here, and countless exotic birds. After dark, head out in search of capybara, caiman, poison frogs, and other nocturnal species. Amazon Cruiser (B,L,D)
Day 4,Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve
Awaken in Pacaya-Samiria, Peru’s largest and wildest flood forest. See abundant herons, jacanas, macaws, howlers and squirrel monkeys, as you explore. Amazon Cruiser (B,L,D)
Day 5,Ucayali River / Maranon River
Visit a riverbank settlement of indigenous people. After lunch, set out in search of gigantic water plants, then rejoin ship near the Natural Amazon Park Posada Lodge. Amazon Cruiser (B,L,D)
Day 6,Maranon River / Natural Amazon Park
Walk a winding path to a hanging bridge for a glimpse of animal life in the jungle’s upper reaches. Swim or paddle native canoes in a lake near the lodge, before the cruise begins heading back to Iquito. Amazon Cruiser (B,L,D)
Day 7,Disembark and Depart Iquitos
Disembark after breakfast, and tour the city and craft market en route to the airport to board your departing flight. (B)
